1-2-3 Come Make a SPLASH With Me! “Making a Splash!” is a super-fun writing prompt that your students will really enjoy. The craftivity is very versatile, as you can use it for the end of the year, or for back to school. It's a fun icebreaker & interesting way to get to know your students too. Simply choose the appropriate writing prompt “cover” for the flip-up booklet: * “Diving Into Summer and Looking Forward to…” * “Diving Into a New School Year and Looking Forward to…” Or Use the “Diving Into ____________ and Looking Forward to…” option, so that students can fill in their new grade, or something else that they are looking forward to. (Diving into sports & looking forward to playing soccer & baseball.) As you can see by the photo on your right, the writing prompt is the "title" on the "cover" of a mini booklet that flips up to reveal what students have written. The writing prompts are also easily diversified for various ability levels & grades; as you can keep things simple for younger students, who can write one or two sentences, or a list; while having preschool children dictate a few one-word answers. Older students will be expected to write one or two pages of more in-depth explanations. There’s a blank page pattern for this. There’s also several “brainstorming” worksheets for the various prompts, which can be used for prewriting. As with all of my products, I’ve included completed samples to give you some ideas, as well as enable you to quickly & easily zip off an example to share with your students. Adding a sprinkle of glitter and a school photo, along with a few 3D options, gives extra pizzazz to the project. Completed projects make a terrific bulletin board, or wall display in the hall. Because students trace & trim their own foot, each project looks a bit different. I’ve included several "Big Splash!" posters you can use for that as well. For additional writing options, there’s also an “I’m Ready to Make a Big Splash!” writing prompt cover, which works for both summer & back to school, allowing you a chance to touch on idioms if you want. Tomorrow is my last day of State testing and I had a revelation....There are only 31 more days left in this school year! Wowzers!!!! Time flies when you are having fun. And that is exactly what we have been doing all year-having fun while learning and working hard! My kiddos have accomplished so much this school year. I wanted to give them the opportunity to reflect on their successes and share them with the world! They have so much to be proud of! So, I created a fun, little writing craftivity that they will complete to show everyone how bright their futures are and help us culminate our school year together. Hi friends! We just wrapped up one of my favorite units...2D shapes! I LOVE this unit because it's an nice break from the addition and subtraction we do the other 10928109 days of 1st grade. :) Plus, they can all be successful! I also really, really like how Investigations (our math curriculum) teaches it. I know there are fans and not-fans of Investigations, but I am, for sure, a fan! I do add in a lot of activities and printables just to keep it engaging and rigorous! Here's a picture of one of my little ones using our Math consumable book. I don't pull it out that often, but I do love that some of the game recording pages are pre-made for me! They are perfect to send home with kiddos who are struggling! Now for the fun stuff! :) One of my favorite activities to do every year is Pattern Block/Shape pictures! They love it and it's something that holds their attention for a long time. I love that you can integrate writing into it, too! I choose to have my students trace the shapes, but you could also have them cut/glue shapes to make their pictures! We also used Jennifer White's Geoboard Task Cards a LOT! They love them! We also went on a Shape Hunt around the classroom. I ended up sending the activity home for homework that week...it made for a fun family project and discussion starter. :) We also did a little Roll and Trace! Here are a few examples of activities in my Let's Talk Shape pack! And finally, a little craftivity! It was great shopping on TpT yesterday during the teacher appreciation sale! I bought a lot of cute stuff! Can't wait to try things out. Us teachers are just SO CREATIVE!! At the same time, I feel a little unsteady lately with all that is going on - there is just so much I want to accomplish and there never seems to be enough time:) Ah well - teach on!!! My muffins have been SO lovely lately! We have been learning about writing with voice so I played this game with my kiddos. We all had to close our eyes and I would tap one student on their shoulder. That student would say an "I loathe.." sentence or an "I adore.." sentence. Then, the class would guess who said the statement. After awhile of doing this my sweeties suggested disguising their voice!! Yup - it worked well!!! We all had some good laughs as we played and discussed what made it easy to figure out who said what!! Our individualities shone and so we thought we could transfer this to our writing. My kiddos were pumped to write their own I adore.., I loathe.. statements. Suddenly, the writing activity evolved into a cute craftivity with each students picture hidden. One sweet pea suggested we walk around and try to figure out who wrote what. They were so excited and careful to hide what they had wrote so as no to ruin the game.
