About The Artwork "Fire Sun," an Egg Tempera on Clayboard painting, is unframed (with 1 1/2" light wood side panels. Wood grain varies). This painting is part of my "Rising" Series. Press Release is below: TAG Gallery is proud to present "Rising," a solo exhibition by Los Angeles-based artist Jaime Coffey. "There are challenging times that ask for discernment, and that process for me has been about identifying my intuition and authentic self. Understanding how I move through the world, and the excitement I feel when I encounter something I might paint brings me to a place of understanding my truth. Certain events brought me awe, longing, or if I paid enough attention, direction." These paintings are a combination of images that Coffey photographed over the last two years. "Each painting is considered from multiple images, my memories, imagination – or something pulling at my heart. I’m finding a need for storytelling, working with internal reflections of my experiences matching my finished paintings." In her studio, Coffey cuts, crops and arranges her photographs until they match an image in her mind. She then starts her work painting in egg tempera, a mixture of egg yolk, dry pigment, and water, mixing her paints for each painting and using Ampersand's Archival Clayboard Panels. Her paintings are filled with multiple layers for each color. Jaime prefers this medium for its nuances between tone, transparency, and vibrancy. "Rising" explores moments of being awestruck that bring reassurance. It’s also centered around stopping to look at the sun or moon. “This little act helps to ground me. I can be more thoughtful with my decisions and more specific with my questions and intentions. "Will I choose to work on being resilient or will I let this difficulty hold me back? I've been working on my mindset and how I chose to look at things, discovering my truth." These paintings are about choosing joy, building a little grit with a positive attitude, and rising above circumstances. St Francis original icon hand-painted in egg tempera on 300gsm acid free smooth (HP) watercolour paper. The halo is gilded with 24 carat gold leaf. The icon has been professionally framed in Ayous bare wood and hand waxed to finish. It measures 44cm wide by 51.5 length and fitted with picture cord ready to hang. This icon of St Francis was part of the body of work for my icon painting diploma, taught by leading Orthodox iconographer Aidan Hart at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts, London. Saint Francis is a well known and much loved saint worldwide. He was a devoted advocate of the poor. Many of the stories that surround his life say that he had a great love for animals and the environment. He was so committed to imitating the life and work of Christ that he is sometimes remembered as 'alter Christus' meaning "another Christ." His feast day is celebrated on 4th October and he is patron of Italy, the environment and animals. I offer free shipping within the UK and meet overseas buyers half way with the cost of shipping with the price quoted at checkout.
