Édouard Vuillard was a French painter, printmaker, and decorator who was a member of the Nabis group of painters in the 1890s. He is particularly known for his depictions of intimate interior scenes. Vuillard studied art from 1886 to 1888 at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts in
Blue-green faience canopic jar with a lid in the shape of the falcon-headed god Qebehsenuef, one of the Four Sons of Horus. On the front of the jar is a rectangular panel depicting the owner worshipping Osiris, painted in black. On the shoulder of the jar, a design of lotus petals radiates from the jar's mouth. Forms a set with 48.1286-1289. Ex-collection Dikran Kelekian.
A statement pendant necklace, most likely of German origin mid 20th c, authentic vintage. This kind of jewellery was worn with Bavarian and Austrian dresses known as Trachten. This lovely piece is based on Historic Revival styles of 19th c, which were in turn inspired by Renaissance and Baroque jewellery. This is especially seen in the elaborate and bold design of this pendant. It features a silver drawn cable chain and a lovely oval garnet glass center stone. Signed ''AD+' makers mark and stamped 835 for silver fineness. The chain has a "..ZII" 2nd grade imported Dutch silver mark and 835 stamp, the spring ring clasp has a 925 silver stamp. Approx. measurements: Pendant 2.5cm in width and 5cm in height. Necklace 34.5cm in length when worn, 69.5cm in length when laid flat. Weights 30 grams. Rare early 20th c. woodblock reproduction of Nishiki-e (woodblock print) by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) depicting Japanese traditional drama and dance Kabuki theater, actors on the stage and audience. Ukiyo-e style. Although this woodblock print says that it is work by Utagawa Hiroshige, we believe that this is late 19th-early 20th c. copy done by one of Hiroshige talented students or followers. Paintings and sculpture from the 1850s through 1970s grace the museum grounds and halls, for all to see. Impressionists and American art dominate the permanent collection, but there is always a nice range of art being highlighted and several curated exhibits throughout the year.
