As a child, Australian artist Shane Drinkwater (previously) was fascinated by maps, astronomical charts, and ciphers. “This possibly relates to my dyslexia: images and shapes had a strong attraction whereas words on paper were a difficult subject,” he tells Colossal. “I found maps on paper quite appealing, coloured shapes and unraveling a code to find a path in the real world.” This cartographic interest permeates the artist’s current body of work, which features dots, stars, dashes, and concentric circles arranged in vast systems and imaginary cosmic charts. Self-taught artist Tiffany Bozic explores a wide range of natural themes in her tightly rendered depictions of wildlife. Drawing inspiration from her “extensive travels to wild places” and exposure to various research specimens at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, the artist works most frequently with multiple layers of watered down acrylic paint on panels of maple wood that lends a distinctly natural and often realistic level of detail to each of her paintings. On September 13, Cotton Candy Machine in Brooklyn will open a group show, "Allegorical Quarter," featuring four artists with a penchant for narrative: Jeremy Hush, Michael Michael Motorcycle, Dilek Baykara and Paul Romano. While Michael Michael Motorcycle and Paul Romano's works pulse with vivid colors and textures, Jeremy Hush opts for a more subdued palate in his haunting mixed-media works and Dilek Baykara creates an ambiance of 1930s-tinged mysticism with pen-and-ink. Take a look at a sneak peek of "Allegorical Quarter" below and see the exhibition September 13 through October 6. See more after the jump.
This listing is for 1 wooden perpetual calendar. We always put a calendar for the current month in an area that the kids are able to see the date. My son has learned a little more about recycling and he asked about the calendar and recycling. We wanted to make something that fit our style and was still easy for the kids to use and this is what we came up with! A circular spinning perpetual calendar. This hangs from the wall like a picture would on a nail or a screw. The rings turn manually so there are no small parts to break. The outter most ring is 11.5" in diameter so this is a substantial size. It's made with cherry for the rings, maple and poplar for the dial window. Its 12 3/4 tall and 1 5/8 thick.
