About The Artwork The Journey Of Life: The painting describes that, we, the human beings are going towards a destination which we desire. Our life path seems to be very beautiful like a desert however it is full of danger. Only one who has experienced it can feel it. But we, all are continuously moving to fulfil our desire. Sometimes we feel that our journey to a better life is only a mirage of it, a place that cannot be reached. But if there is a mirage there is definitely an oasis also near the place. This means if we take the right path, we can reach to our destination. All my paintings including this one are conceptualized, authentic and painted by only me. There are no copies and is the one piece. Subrata Biswas - Untitled - 11.5 x 8.25 Inches ( unframed size ) Dry Pastel, Charcoal on Paper , 2008 ( Unframed All in Delivered Price ) Style : The motive of a child in its most basic form appears quite repeatedly in the works of Subrata Biswas. The elementary human form representing the child complements innocence, one generally associated with a child. But artistically, what is more interesting is how the sculptor made the simplistic form emerge by reconciling elements of both folk and classical form. It is more of a language than a style in which Subrata creates his narratives with the child and accessories associated with the child. About the Artist : Born : 1972. Education : 1994 - B.V.A Spl.Sculpture Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. 1997 - M.V.A. Spl.Sculpture Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Selected Shows : 1998 - 2007 - Annual of Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata. 2000 and 2002 - All India Annual Art Exhibition, Kolkata. 2000 - 42nd National Exhibition of Art. 2004 - Annual Show, A.I.F.A.C.S., New Delhi. 2007 - The Gallery Cork, London. 2006 and 2007 - Gen Next 1 & 2, Organized by Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata. 2008 - Solo Show at Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata 2008. 1997-2009 - Several Shows at Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. Awards : 2000 - Lalitkala Award, New Delhi. 2000 - West Bengal State Academy award. 2000 - Presently attached as a Guest Lecturer, Sculpture Dept. Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. About his art work : Subrata Biswas’s three sculptures ‘Think Green’, ‘Amigo’ and ‘City Bred’ a conscious selection of elements of folk forms simultaneously reflect formal economy and a statement on the rural-urban binary. I say this particularly because the elements of the urban remains camouflaged in these animated folk forms. The works are framed within the contexts of the simple and the complex. There is a fantastic element in the works which is brought about by transforming the motifs of a fish, kite, an animal etc into larger than life forms. It is needless to say that all motifs are selected by the artist and are composed in such a manner so that the sculptural presence of each form gets enhanced.
