Renaissance Fitted Dress "Renaissance Memories Cotton Renaissance costume dress with sleeves  When you think about it, you can still see her, clear as day: her hair catching in the breeze as she walked along the castle walls. Occasionally she would catch your eye, a shy smile playing across her lips as she looked away, hurrying off. Sometimes she would come down to the gardens, just to sit near the willows and enjoy the quiet birdsong. You can’t remember the last time you saw her, though - was she just a dream? Or perhaps a distant memory… As with many of our most beautiful creations, we found inspiration for this stunning dress in history and then altered it slightly to create something flattering and unique. We have taken silhouettes and features from the late XV/ XVI centuries, picking and choosing different parts of various garments to create what has become our “Renaissance Memories” collection. Though this Renaissance dress isn’t strictly historical, it won’t look out of place at any medieval events, and is great for SCA, LARP, Renaissance Faires and more! This is an overdress, which means it is best paired with a chemise underneath. It features a fitted bodice, square neckline, side lacing, tailored sleeves, and a massive, gorgeously draped skirt. It features silhouettes and shapes that are undeniably feminine, and we have aimed to make the shoulders of this dress fitted and dainty, with a sculpted waistline a flowing skirt, complete with generous box pleats. We have created the front panel of the dress to have horizontal pleats, imitating the front lacing you would commonly find in gowns of this time period. We chose to move the lacing to the sides of the dress, however, to accommodate people of all shapes and sizes and to ensure it looks great on every body type. This dress looks amazing on any modern figure, and the side lacing ensures you get the best, most comfortable fit possible. The main part of the dress has short sleeves, finishing at the bicep. You can choose to wear the dress as-is, or also wear the matching velvet sleeves, made from a contrasting color. These sleeves do not tie on and are instead worn as if they are arm warmers, without any lacing. The sleeves are also close fitting, creating a beautiful silhouette with the rest of the dress. If you do not wish to wear the sleeves, your chemise will be visible, which is also a perfectly suitable way to wear this outfit. The majority of this dress is constructed from our premium cotton. It is a structured, strong fabric, giving this dress some much needed form, but it also drapes beautifully and creates a dramatic skirt that will flow when you walk. Fantasy Cloak “Sea Born” Woolen cape with Nautilus shell trim Our Sea-Born collection is loosely inspired by early medieval designs but is made to be universal to the general medieval time period. When creating these items we imagined they would be worn by someone who wishes to be one with the sea, an aspiring mermaid perhaps, or anyone who feels at home sitting on the beach on misty mornings. If you love to dance through the waves and long walks along the coast, we’re thinking about you! The inspiration behind this cloak is mostly Byzantine – we looked at the simple triangle and semi-circle cloaks seen in artworks. This kind of cloak is fantastic because it’s easy to secure and adjust with a fibula, fits almost anyone, and also looks dramatic and beautiful, which we feel is always an important factor in any costume. The cloak can either be fastened with a pin or fibula at the front or at your shoulder, depending on how you choose to wear it. We’ve used special wool for this collection that’s softer and drapes much nicer than any wool we’ve used before. It’s still water-resistant and perfect for a chilly morning, though, sure to provide you with a little bit of protection from the elements. The cloak itself has a very subtle cut out for it to drape around your neck, and flows down to just below the knees depending on how you choose to wear it. The border of the cape is trimmed with an absolutely stunning piece of artwork: trim woven with a nautilus shell design on it. The pattern for this ArmStreet-exclusive trim was created by our artists, who were inspired by the creatures and shellfish you would find on the beach. Spiderweb Dress with Sleeves Sackcloth dress with black linen sleeves and embroidery You can’t help but find yourself drawn to her. Alluring, clever and cunning, she moves like the wind and smiles like a gothic queen. You’re not sure if she’s a powerful witch or brooding mage, but the sheer grace and strength she exudes with each and every movement make one thing clear: she is to be feared and respected. While sackcloth was originally used as a utility fabric, our designers here at ArmStreet have breathed new life into this fabulous material. This enchanting dress makes use of the rough nature this fabric appears to have to turn what would usually be a luxurious dress fit for nobility into a mysterious garment fit for a mystical character. We have included two different thicknesses of sackcloth in this dress: a thicker weave over the body, and a more sheer thickness through the arms. Though it may look rough, our linen sackcloth is actually comfortable, breathable, and softens up perfectly next to your skin with wear. The overall result is a dress with an interesting texture that adds to all elements of your costume and comes up excellently in photography! This dress has a high, loose waist that can either be worn as-is or accessorised with a belt for a more fitted empire waist. It includes two gussets to add more fabric, one from the bust and the other from the back. Because of this additional fabric the skirt is incredibly full and swishes with each step. This whole dress is cut on the bias to provide a magnificent drape that creates an almost architectural shape - you will find that when you move the sackcloth flows and dances in the wind. We chose to add embroidery to the neckline of this dress as well as the arm area where the sleeves are added to draw the eye and create a little bit more texture. Using linen thread, an attractive blanket stitch frames the bust and bicep to create a more visually interesting piece. The linen sleeves for this dress are a separate piece and are made from double layered flax linen. They are reminiscent of Renaissance designs with the slit in the elbow and the way that fabric bunches around them. The cuff is fitted and narrow, with a flare at the wrist the gives them an elegant finish. The unique, handmade buttons are fastened with waxed lace loops and are spaced closely together down the sleeve, again evoking images of Renaissance luxury whilst keeping their air of mystery. The linen buttons are finished with a layer of netting with a ragged edge which is gathered into a tail, causing them to resemble tiny ghosts or perhaps comets - it is up to you! Fantasy Armor Gorget, Arms & Spaulders "Dark Star" XV century blackened pauldrons, gorget and arms set Don’t turn down a dance with the Dark Star – it’s probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. Be careful not to get too close or fall into her orbit, that’s exactly what she expects from you. Keep your distance, have your wits about you, and learn everything you can. After all, the world may revolve around her, but that doesn’t mean that your world has to. This set is a part of our Dark Star Collection, a brand new set of items inspired by fierce warrior women. We have crafted the shape of the set to fit the female body. The whole collection is made from thin spring steel, which is protective but incredibly light compared to our usual material of stainless steel. Spring steel tends to attract rust more than stainless, though, which is why we gave it a blackened finish to protect it – and as an added bonus, it looks amazing! This listing includes two components – the connect pauldrons and arm harness set, as well as the gorget. Pauldrons and gorgets are always a great combination because the pauldrons can be pointed to the gorget for easier arming. The arm harness is full arm protection, from the top of your shoulder right down to your wrist. We were inspired by the completely riveted pieces of armor from the XV century, so there is a historical basis to what we have created here. Though we consider it to be one piece, there are actually a number of components to this arm harness – three to be exact. From the shoulder to the elbow we have an articulated pauldron and rerebrace, which protects the most vital parts of your upper arm without hindering your flexibility too much. A large elbow cop protects the inside of your elbow and provides great coverage due to its size. The bracers that connect to the elbow are fully enclosed and anatomically shaped, meaning they are more comfortable than some of the other more tube-like armor. This armor harness is very sleek and feminine in silhouette, and looks amazing! The gorget is equally as functional as the arm harness and protects you in all of the places you expect it to. The front of it extends down your chest to give you vital protection, with a little bit of overhang at the back as well to protect the top of your spine. A wonderfully articulated neck means that you have far more mobility than ever before, so you'll have the freedom to really look around and be alert in a sword fight. It closes with a hinge on one side and a push pin mechanism on the other, so it is very easy to take on and off. It has been made with a combination of 1.2mm and 1mm spring steel, so it is nice and light and will absorb shock well. We have designed the whole set with fine details in mind. Little things like solid brass rivets and cast brass buckles give the items a refined finish that we know our customers will appreciate. Quality leather is used to edge the bracers and other pieces, as well as hold everything closed with straps and provide articulation. All of these strong materials work together to create an armor collection that will stand the test of time. Please, mind that no polishing option is available if you choose brassed spring steel! Ladies Cotton Gambeson Vest "Dark Star" Vest with leather straps If you’re looking for a base layer of armor to get you started, a gambeson vest is a great place to start! It gives you a little bit of chest padding, looks fantastic, and is a great base layer to go under your armor once you begin to collect it. A lot of love has gone into this particular gambeson - here at ArmStreet we are all passionate sword fighters or medieval enthusiasts, so creating a female gambeson that is both functional and beautiful is something that has been at the top of our list for a while! The pattern for this garment has been completely adapted to fit the female body perfectly, emphasizing your curves and protecting you where it matters most. This vest goes from your neck down to just below your hips and includes a high collar which is fantastic underneath a gorget or mail standard. The vest is entirely padded and quilted, with special attention to detail applied to the quilting to make sure it compliments your curves, bringing you in at the waist and flaring out again horizontally at your hips. We have added plenty of overlap in the gap in the middle of the gambeson to make sure you’re completely covered and have adapted the “skirt” part of it to fit your hips well and give you excellent coverage. We were very inspired by gambesons made in the XIV-XV century, which were flattering, nicely fitted, but still practical. Just to give some added utility, we have also included arming points on the shoulders, which is the perfect place to attach pauldrons. We chose to make this vest out of cotton because it is reliable, strong and holds up really well to wear. Though it may not be as breathable as linen, it is still nice and breezy, but won’t deteriorate as quickly with armor rubbing. It is also available in many vibrant colors that will bring your costume to life. We have included contrasting edges on this gambeson to add another color the mix, including along the collar, down the middle, the sleeves, and the bottom of the gambeson. The straps up the middle are made out of quality embossed leather and have been stitched on to ensure they stand the test of time and serve you well in battle. They are secured with beautiful little medieval brass buckles which add a decorative element while still servicing a purpose. “Water Flowers” Belt with Enamel Enamel and brass women’s belt Ethereal and graceful, our “Water Flowers” collection consists of items inspired by Art Nouveau shapes, lovely water gardens and of course, elves. Throughout all of the items, you’ll find common motifs such as twisting elven knotwork, flowers, leaves, and lines that flow like water. All of the dresses are crafted from fluttery silk and soft, draping cotton, so it was only natural that we also created a line of accessories to compliment and emphasise such beautiful garments! This belt appears delicate yet strong, just like an elf! The main feature is a chain is made from 1.6mm brass wire, all hand made and assembled. It’s punctuated by circular accents made from laser-cut brass, twisted into the floral shapes you’ll also find on the trim of the dresses and the other jewellery. The belt closes at the front with a small hook that can be looped through the chain, which can easily be adjusted after a feast if you need a little bit more belt room! The circular accents are wonderfully finished by hand and further embellished with enamel. Enamel is one of the specialities of our master jeweller, and each colour is mixed by him and painstakingly applied by hand for perfection. Four of the circles feature elvish leaves, whereas the one found at the back is a more solid enamel water flower. The final accent is at the bottom of the chain that hangs below the closure, featuring another flower. Our “Water Flower” Belt is ArmStreet designed and made from start to finish. It started in the mind of our resident artist, who researched elvish and Art Nouveau designs to create something truly unique. The hood is quite generous in size, and will easily save you from the elements. This isn’t a typical little historical hood that only covers your head and a bit of your shoulders. It drapes to below your chest and almost covers you as much as a little cloak, meaning you’ll stay much warmer during the chilly seasons! It flares out slightly over your shoulders and sits open at the front, so it doesn’t entirely cover up the beautiful clothing you are wearing underneath, but still shields you from the wind. The hood is secured with a gorgeous pair of embroidered buttons up near your neck along with two loops. The embroidery on this hood and the rest of the “Fairy Tale” collection happens to be some of the most ornate, complicated embroidery we have ever designed. None of it is machine-done, it is all painstakingly adorned by our expert seamstresses by hand over the course of many hours. It depicts the snaking stems of plants growing upwards and across the bottom from a pretty flower at the base of the hood. The vines are accented with beautiful little blooms that add contrast and fill in any gaps. All of the edges are expertly finished as well, with the exposed seam on the inside of the hood reenforced with linen tape to ensure the garment has a long life. All of the hems, including the bottom, middle, and all around the hood are finished with additional embroidery to really frame the piece. Flat leather soles lead to absolutely no traction control, as well as a lack of support, which becomes a problem when you’re spending a long time on your feet. Our “Forest Boots”, which have become a bestseller of ours, are our creative solution to this problem! They combine a medieval aesthetic with modern shoemaking design to produce a product that is high-quality, comfortable, but still good looking. We specifically had LARPers, SCAdians, Renaissance Faires, fencers and other martial arts in mind when we created these boots. When he joined our team, our master shoemaker was excited to put his expertise in modern shoemaking to use on our medieval styles. But using a modern shoe last, he figured out the best way to create a comfortable shape for you to fit your foot into. We also include a modern sole which is still flat, but offers a little bit of extra support on the inside of the shoe, which compared to a strictly historical shoe is amazing! Other modern adjustments include a non-slip rubber sole (great on the battlefield), strong and neat machine stitching throughout and robust lacing loops. Natural pigskin leather is the main material we have used to construct the boots. It is perfect for this kind of design because it is super strong but also fits live a glove. The design of the boot is nice and simple and aims to not stand out in an extravagant way, but instead compliment the rest of your costume and be a part of it. The shape of the boot is rounded at the front with a slim, flattering profile, which gives them a refined, practical look. They are just about knee-high, going up to your upper calf, with lacing running from the base of your ankle at the top of your foot all the way to the top. Because they open with lacing, you can fit your foot into them but still have a fitted look on your legs. The tongue of the boot is attached on one side and left free to be a split on the other, making it easy to position (a tongue that is completely unconnected to the sides would be difficult to position in the right place and has a tendency to be uncomfortable). The loops for the lacing are made of a strong fabric, which has been attached to the leather with two layers of stitching for extra durability. Strong, extra-long lacing allows you to get the right fit around your leg - it is up to you if you want to cut the lacing shorter once you own the boots, or if you want to use it like a “garter” to wrap around the base of your knee and keep the boots up. These boots are quite generic in a design sense, which means there is an absolutely massive range of costumes and characters that they can be applied to. We’ve found these boots being worn by our customers all over the world, and are always surprised and delighted to see the kind of characters and personas that wear them. Even though these are a traditionally masculine style, we have seen all varieties of characters wearing them: princesses, hunters, rangers, warriors, knights, witches, apothecaries, rogues, elves…. honestly, we couldn’t even list all of them! Even though these boots are comfortable like modern shoes, please remember that they are still medieval and require a little bit of extra care compared to modern materials. "Shoe trees" (or even newspaper) are another great way to preserve your footwear and help it keeps its shape, and boot shapers or finding a way to store them standing up wouldn't go amiss either. You should also remember that natural leather is soft material and it will stretch so when you are getting your shoes it is normal that they fit very slim. We wanted to evoke a sense of easy and relaxed romance, the kind of feeling you have when spending time with the one you love. This dress walks the perfect line of history and fantasy, using all of the best parts of medieval clothing and combining them with a sense of wonder. This dress looks as if it has stepped out of an Arthurian legend and is fit for a queen, priestess, mage, noble-lady, or goddess. An ornately pleated bodice is finished with a wide scooped neckline, leading to sleeves that are fitted at the shoulder but long and flowing at the bottom. Side lacing at the bodice allows you to get the perfect fit across your torso, and the skirt flows to the ground with added multiple gores for volume. We decided to use a new material for this dress - a high-quality cotton poplin that is wonderfully soft and has great movement to it. Thinner than our usual structured cotton, it allows for a more gentle dress with a nice texture. The trim on this dress is ArmStreet exclusive, meaning we have designed it ourselves and you won’t be able to find it anywhere else! It is inspired by the kind of flowers and shapes you’d find in a water garden, along with motifs common in Art Nouveau. If you’re a fan of fine details, you’re going to find this dress overwhelming! You will find trim at the neckline, the upper arm, the end of the huge sleeves as well as the bottom of the dress, all expertly attached to sit perfectly. All along with the pleats at the front are tiny little beads accenting the shape. All seams are overlocked and well finished, and lacing rings securely attached. In the old days, this type of shirt was used as a bottom layer of clothing to protect the top dress from sweat and body fluids. Thus, the main dress did not need frequent washing and replacement. Before the 15th century, linen was the preferred material for shirts, a choice that is reflected in this tunic. Later, cotton shirts also came into fashion, but linen remained a sign of cleanliness and health.
