This past Sunday was a very FUN day of learning. The kiddos were soooo excited to learn about the Helmet of Salvation. Prior to going into the lesson I showed them pictures of various types of hats. For example, a football helmet, hockey helmet, baseball bating helmet, motorcycle helmet, hard hat, bike helmet, combat helmet, fireman's helmet, straw hat, stocking cap, etc. I asked them to tell me when they would wear these type of helmets and why. They had various answers...but, the answer I was looking for was that they would be worn for protection. They all understood the need to protect their heads. (They could really relate to the bike helmet and stocking cap.) I then went into the lesson about how the Helmet of Salvation is our Protection for the Devil and all his tricks. I wanted them to learn that Salvation is found in Jesus. I wanted them to understand that Jesus died for our Salvation. I then went on and explained that our knowing that Jesus Saves Us is a type of Helmet. It helps protect our mind from all the evil, mean, unkind, etc. beliefs that are in the world. I explained that they needed to think about Jesus every day...and that thinking about HIM will help them always make the right choices. It is AMAZING how well these little ones seem to understand....It makes me appreciate the scene when Jesus said, "let the little ones come unto me and forbid them not." Our "Take Home" activity was a Helmet of Salvation.....I was fortunate, I found these gold helmets at a local card and party type store. However, they did NOT have a PLUME or the word Salvation on them...So, we added the plume and "Salvation" during class. They LOVED having their own Helmet. They were adorable wearing them as they left the classroom....they were so excited for their parents to see what they had made. Our memory verse was a short one this week....and we sang it to a little tune. They ALL knew the verse before they left the classroom, which makes me so happy. They enjoyed coloring their Helmets on their MV Card. Their Wednesday Evening Activity for their "Explorer Journal" was a picture of a Helmet and they added the Plume....To make this a little more fun we had several different colors of feathers....I had one student that made their plume multi-colored. I LOVED it. For our Review Game Activity we rolled the cube and named the pieces of Armor. They have not grown bored with this game...matter-of-fact, they ask me if we can play it again. I love doing things they love doing. This is how we have been playing the CUBE game. I ask a question from the lesson....one student answers it....then they roll the cube and tell me the piece of Armor they landed on and where it is worn. I like it because they have to answer several questions when it is "their turn." Blessings, Ronda

I saw another blogger make a fabulous Armour of God felt book activity, but unfortunately don't know what blog so can't post credit (sorry). A4 design, the soldier without his armour. I've created a couple of versions, all of which can be printed onto card, laminated and made into a great scripture related activity. It can also be printed on to transfer paper (if using a mirror image version of image. The pieces can also be matched to the correct shape/ word. A version were the pieces are all on one page. I am going to put these up on alljoinin.net but yet to do so. When I create this in felt I think I will make the man out of felt sewn so that the armour can be then gripped onto the man most effectively, I will keep you posted.

Today was the beginning of our new "Theme." We are Exploring the Armor of God. Paul wrote the Letter to the brethren in Ephesus. They lived under the Roman Government and were completely aware of the Armor a Soldier wore. The kiddos were excited to get started with this new topic. However, I was asked SEVERAL times...."are we going to finish the Judges and learn about the Kings?" They are so smart!!! After lots of reassurance we went on with our new topic. I had the kiddos put on the Explorer Hats today and we sang the song. "We Are Bible Explorers." The kiddos love marching around the room as we sing this song. We then went right on with my lesson plans. We added a BEE to their attendance charts as we sang our attendance song. We then talked about Prayer and how we are to be REVERENT during prayer. We then said our prayer. Then we did some Basic Bible Review and Songs. This is when we say our Books of the Bible. Review how many book are in the Bible, how many main parts, how many book in the Old/New, etc. This is when I told them that our lesson was from the New Testament. I told the kids it came from the Ephesian Epistle (telling them that they would impress their parents if they remembered that an Epistle is a fancy word for a letter.) I then showed them where Ephesus and Rome are on our NEW classroom map. (I forgot to take a picture of the map...I will make sure to get one next week.) I explained that Paul loved the Christians that lived in Ephesus and wanted them to be strong. I then went on with the lesson about Armor. Our main focus was on the BELT OF TRUTH today. We talked about our need for listening to TRUTH. We talked about how the devil is filled with lies and is our enemy...and God's Word will help us defeat our enemy. Our activity was a cardstock BELT OF TRUTH. They were so cute wearing these as they left the classroom. Our Memory Verse was Ephesians 6:14. We had a little tune to sing the memory verse too. I LOVE to have a song to go with their memory verses. I think it helps them to memorize the verse. Our Review Activity was a fun experience. I coded a cube (old empty cardboard box) with all the pieces of the Armor of God. The kiddos had to answer a question from the story for an opportunity to roll the cube. Whatever piece of Armor the cube landed on the children added that to their "soldier." The boys had a boy soldier and the girls had a girl soldier. They seemed to enjoy this game. If they do not get the answer correct I use that as the opportunity to correct any misunderstanding. BTW, this was a cheap game to make. This is the cube...I covered the box with blue poster paper and then attached the Armor pieces. We had our Who? What? When? Where? Where? Why? and How? cards. And we had a card to add to our God's Awesome Plan for Man wall. I really think this is an important part of ALL Bible stories. This is our NEW Theme Bulletin Board. On Wednesday Evening the kiddos will be "designing" their Belt of Truth. They will glue on sequins after coloring their belt. They will then add the little Bible to their belt...since the BELT OF TRUTH is the WORD OF GOD. I am looking forward to teaching this material. I know the children really were excited this morning. I hope they are always excited about learning lessons from God's Word. Blessings, Ronda

We are continuing our lessons on the Armor of God. This past Sunday we added "Sandals of Peace" to our Belt of Truth and Breastplate of Righteousness. We learned that God wants our feet to be SHOD with the preparation of the Gospel of Peace. I wanted the kiddos to realize that when we teach others about Jesus we are sharing news that gives people a lasting PEACE. I also explained that sometimes people try to say that life is nothing but problems and disappointments, but, because we are wearing our "sandals of peace" we know that God takes care of us and that we do NOT need to worry. I started off by asking the kiddos why we wear our shoes? The answers were sooooo cute. They responded with comments such as, "to protect our feet from the hot ground." (BTW, we have been in the 100 degrees for the past few weeks.) One even said, "with out shoes you might step on rocks, glass or stickers. And that HURTS!" One little girl said, "I wear shoes because they are cool and match my dresses." (typical little girl ;-)) I loved ALL their answers. I then explained that we wear the "Sandals of Peace" for all the same reasons. I explained the the "Sandals of Peace" protect our feet while we are teaching others. They help us keep teaching even though some people don't want to hear the Good News of Jesus. I then took what the little girl said and talked to them about how the "Sandals of Peace" go with all our other Armor pieces...and they help "complete" the outfit. As our "Take Home" activity we made "Sandals of Peace." Yes, they are wearable Sandals. I think they turned out kinda cute. I took pictures of each child wearing their sandals....I love little kids toes...and I know their parents will love receiving a pic. of their kiddo wearing their handmade "Sandals of Peace." Our memory verse was Ephesians 6:15. We sang the verse to a little tune and they all had it memorized before leaving class....BTW, I took the time to explain the word "SHOD." I want them to understand what the verse means. So, anytime I think there is something in a verse that is confusing I do my best to explain it in "KIDDO TERMS." The kiddos made the flip flop version of "Sandals of Peace" for their Explorer Journals.....They added the ribbons that say, "Jesus Loves Me." We used this as a jump off point to say, "Since Jesus Loves us we need to feel peaceful." We went on and explained the need to SHARE the story of Jesus and HIS love for us....this is how we wear our "Sandals of Peace." For our review game we rolled the cube I made for lesson one...I then asked the kiddos which piece of armor the cube landed on...We were pushed for time this past Sunday, as making the sandals and taking pictures, took up a little more time than our usual activities....so, I cut the review game time down by just letting them roll the cube after answering a question from the lesson. They enjoyed it very much. Blessings, Ronda

Sword of the Spirit - Armor of God
I have been busy this week. Still playing a bit of catch up since my daughter Sarah's wedding and vacation. So, I spent some time getting the kiddo's "Explorer Journals" made. This quarter our Explorer Journals are light blue. They match the time line boards that are in our bible classes hallway. As I promised, I took a picture of our Map for this quarter. The kiddos were excited that we are in a "New" location. We have Rome and Ephesus clearly labeled on the map. Since our lesson is all about the Breastplate of Righteousness, I decided we would make Breastplates. Just seems logical...hehe. The kiddos will decorate the front of their Breastplate anyway they want. We will have pieces of paper, buttons, etc. available. After they complete their Breastplate we (my helper and I) will help the kiddos get them on. I know they will LOVE wearing them out of the classroom...and am looking forward to them telling the others all about the lesson. Our lesson will be focusing on how we must live righteously. We will use the Good Samaritan as one of our examples of choosing the righteous thing to do. This is the kiddos memory verse card. We will sing the memory verse to a little tune several times before the kiddos leave the classroom. I am sure they will ALL have this memorized very quickly. One of the visuals we are using this quarter is a "flip chart" of the Armor of God. This Flip Chart was made from the part of the package that my BIG Armor of God Soldier came from. Instead of throwing away that little top portion of the package...I cut it up, printed out the name of each piece of the Armor...laid it up on the poster board, then laminated. So, from TRASH to TREASURE. Always check the packaging for useful pictures before discarding. OK, Sometimes thing just don't work. I started out with this idea for the kiddos "Explorer Journal" activity. I loved the look....but, it took WAY to many coins, and I did NOT have the time to cut each of these plastic coins for a total of 6-8 kiddos. HUM, so what to do? Well, I went to Dollar Tree and purchased 4 silver shiny bags. I took them back to the building and cut them up into pieces that would fit on my CRICUT. I programmed in circles and let the machine do the work. So, this will be the Explorer Journal Activity for this Wednesday Evening. I wish I would have been able to do the other idea...I just like the 3D effect.....but, time is important....and the kiddos will love all this shiny paper. So, sometimes I have to admit my limits and find an alternative. I think this works. So, I guess my advice is, when something is taking WAY to long to come together....look for alternatives that will get the effect. Our Review Activity this week is the same as last week. We are going to Get our Armor On. The kiddos loved playing it last week, so I decided it would be good to repeat the game this week. Blessings, Ronda
We finished the Armor of God unit. The children had soooo much fun learning all about the Armor God wants us to be wearing. I decided for this post to post a lot of pictures of one of the kiddos in his FULL "ARMOR OF GOD." They all enjoyed making their ARMOR PIECES....and when we put them all together they had their entire suit of ARMOR. I know they will NEVER forget learning about this very important subject. They LOVED learning about the Armor of God. Happy Boy Belt of Truth. Breastplate of Righteousness. Sandals of Peace. Helmet of Salvation. Shield of Faith. Sword of the Spirit.
The boys participated in a Kingdom Chronicles Vacation Bible School this summer and loved it. We still listen to the CD daily. I wanted to share one of the Armor of God crafts they made

The main objective of our school lunchtime club is to form relationships with the children and to open up discussion about God with them in a natural way. This seems to happen best when everyone is busy doing something creative! Last week we got to the end of our focus on the fruit of the spirit by looking at 'goodness'- we weren't doing them in order and this just happened to come last, probably because it's the hardest to explain! Sarah hit upon the idea of focussing on what we thought was 'good' about the character of God and then helping the children to relate this to how we should behave ourselves. In order to do this we decided to let the children make collages of their ideas... We used paper plates as a base and a variety of papers. Here's what the children came up with! An expression of God's love and his goodness to us. The child who made this, then was prompted to go and give it to her teacher as a gift! This picture shows God's love, His creativity for making the world and the things in it and His generosity in giving it to us. This picture shows a heart for God's love, a 'smile' because God is joyful and happy and a 'halo' above because God does good and kind things. The taller person is God, helping the smaller person to walk. God is good because He helps us. This child really wanted to express God's happiness. In her mind, goodness was linked to happiness!
