L'armatura in mio possesso, commissionata nell'ottobre 2004 e terminata circa un anno dopo, è una riproduzione dell'insieme composito conservato presso il Museo Diocesano "Francesco Gonzaga" di Mantova, catalogato dall'oplogo di fama internazionale L. G. Boccia con la sigla B3. Il termine "composito" fa riferimento a pezze che in origine non vennero prodotte per un insieme univoco, ma assemblate in modo da costituire un unicum coerente per inquadramento temporale e caratteristiche morfologiche. Rispetto all'originale, datato dal Boccia "intorno al 1480 o poco prima", la mia B3 presenta due divergenze strutturali sostanziali: 1. le scarselle (= piastre mobili poste frontalmente a difese della coscia): trattandosi di un'armatura composita, l'attribuzione di quelle attuali, di foggia insolitamente allungata se confrontata con altre pezze coeve, può essere contestabile. Pertanto ho preferito, in ossequio all'armonia morfologica d'insieme, commissionare le scarselle della famosa armatura "Sanseverino", posteriore alla B3 solo di pochi anni, assai più armoniche per via delle dimensioni maggiormente contenute; 2. l'elmo: l'originale presenta un fantastico "elmetto da uomo d'arme" con rotellino, fra l'altro uno dei pochissimi esemplari oggi conosciuti con questa protezione aggiuntiva della nuca. Essendo un elmo integrale tipicamente da cavallo, pertanto con un "visus" molto limitato nel combattimento appiedato, ho preferito sostituirlo con una celata italiana; ovviamente tale celata è coeva all'insieme, ed è ispirata a quella conservata presso il Museo "Luigi Marzoli" di Brescia (dalla quale, tuttavia, si differenzia per la mancanza della cordonatura a "spina di pesce"). Puntualizzo che sono stati aggiunti, in quanto non presenti nell'originale, i seguenti elementi: 1. lame di batticulo 2. guardareni Entrambi sono stati mutuati dalla "armatura Sanseverino", sempre per la medesima motivazione di estrema vicinanza temporale con la B3. L'armatura da uomo d'arme ritratta in queste immagini è la riproduzione di un insieme composito del tardo Quattrocento italiano, conservato a Mantova presso il Museo Diocesano "Francesco Gonzaga" e catalogato dall'oplologo di fama internazionale Lionello G. Boccia con la sigla B3. Tale originale fa parte di un complesso di sei armature gotico-italiane di inestimabile pregio, scoperte dal dott. James Mann intorno agli anni '30, presso il Santuario di "S. Maria delle Grazie" in Curtatone, unitamente ad un' armatura a sgusci e cannelli del primo '500 (c.d. "alla massimiliana") e ad altri corsaletti e pezzi isolati. La replica venne commissionata dal sottoscritto nell'ottobre 2004 e terminata circa un anno dopo. E' stata realizzata integralmente su misura della mia persona e con scrupolosa aderenza alle caratteristiche tecnico-morfologiche complessive dell'originale di riferimento, fatta eccezione per alcune desiderate divergenze strutturali (elmo e scarselle) e necessarie integrazioni di pezze perdute (lame di batticulo e guardareni).
