"Sleep (Jean-René Carrière)," by Eugène Carrière (1897) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.5" x 9.38") • 12" x 16" (Image: 10" x 12.5") • 16" x 20" (Image: 13" x 16.25") • 20" x 24" (Image: 16" x 20") • 24" x 30" (Image: 19" x 23.81") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK Eugène Carrière developed an unusual approach to lithography, typically working from dark to light, as seen in this portrait of his young son Jean-René. Rather than drawing with a lithographic crayon, Carrière covered his entire stone with ink, which he then wiped and scraped away to create areas where the paper would show through when printed. Here, the visual effects of this technique combine with expressive, almost abstract forms to give the subject a fantastic, dreamlike atmosphere. Credit Line: Text courtesy of The Cleveland Museum of Art. ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you.

DESCRIPTION Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper | 2022 For a brief time, Brian Merriam was fortunate enough to walk among the living spirits of the Peruvian mountains themselves. The Con Los Apus series is named after the word for “lord” in Quechua, the language of the Incas. “Los Apus” are the spirits of the mountains and the protectors of the local people. A distinction must be made, as they are not spirits who live in or around the mountains, but the living spirits of the mountains themselves. This series is the result of another attempt by Merriam to immerse himself in a place of not only spectacular natural beauty, but also of great power. "The Boulevard Montmarte on a Winter Morning," by Camille Pissarro (1897) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.5" x 9.31") • 12" x 16" (Image: 10" x 12.38") • 16" x 20" (Image: 13" x 16.13") • 20" x 24" (Image: 16" x 19.88") • 24" x 30" (Image: 19" x 23.56") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- Pissarro's early impressionist works shocked contemporary critics, accustomed, as they were, to the strict conventions of academic realism. His loose, dabbling brushwork sought to capture the essence of the subject, rather than its details. In an era when historical, mythological and religious themes rested at the very pinnacle of fine art, he painted the everyday lives of ordinary people. Rather than blending his pigments to precision, he juxtaposed complementary colors to create bright, vibrant contrasts, and avoided the dampening effect of black by painting shadows in the reflected light of their surroundings. If academic realists were uneasy about the advent of photography, Pissarro and the impressionists had no cause for concern; their object was not to represent the world as it exists, but as it is perceived. "The Boulevard Montmarte on a Winter Morning" is one of Pissarro's later works; the product of a renewed interest in impressionism following his collaboration with Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. The pointillist technique, in which small patches of pure color blend together when viewed from a distance, had proven far too mechanical for Pissarro, who recounted that "It was impossible to be true to my sensations and consequently to render life and movement, impossible to be faithful to the effects, so random and admirable, of nature, impossible to give an individual character to my drawing, [that] I had to give up." According to the art historian John Reward, his works of this late period became "more subtle, his color scheme more refined, his drawing firmer," as he "approached old age with an increased mastery." "Geological Chart," by Levi Walter Yaggy (1893) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.13" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 9.5" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 11.5" x 17") • 20" x 30" (Image: 16" x 23.63") • 24" x 36" (Image: 19" x 28") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. In Gray's narrative, when King Edward I conquers Wales, he orders all the bards killed, lest they inspire the people to rise up against their English masters. When the last bard is chased to a rocky precipice, he curses the English army below and throws himself into the swirling river: "'Enough for me: with joy I see / The diff'rent doom our fates assign. / Be thine Despair and sceptred Care; / To triumph and to die are mine.' / He spoke, and headlong from the mountain's height / Deep in the roaring ride he plunged to endless night."
