From stunningly gorgeous and utopian to cold and soulless, there are probably as many opinions about modernist buildings as there are people in the world. In the eternal discussion about whether function or form is more important, the balance might arguably be skewed in favor of the former when we talk about modernism, the architectural style that dominated much of the 20th century. Though who’s to say that modernism doesn’t allow for beauty and balance?

A la frontière entre art et voyeurisme, la photographe voit avant tout, dans ce constant va-et-vient entre l'intérieur et l'extérieur au centre duquel la fenêtre devient un lieu de passage, le désir d'entrer en contact avec ses sujets, cherchant dans les rectangles illuminés suspendus dans la nuit un réconfort, un écho à sa solitude, une communion. “I wanted to see inside and outside at the same time,” wrote Edward Hopper in the early 1960s. More than a declaration of intent, this statement summarized the aim of his entire body of work, and it also applies to New York photographer Gail-Albert Halaban.

i think more experimenting should be done with the fact that brutalist architecture is probably one of the best styles for standing against unchecked natural growth, which is great from both an economic and ecological standpoint
