κείμενο από τους δημιουργούς του project – Η παρούσα διπλωματική πραγματεύεται τη μετάβαση της Παραλιακής λεωφόρου από φορτισμένη κυκλοφοριακή αρτηρία σε προορισμό αναψυχής, μέρος του τουριστικού τοπίου της πρωτεύουσας. Αυτή η προβληματική πηγάζει από το αυξανόμενο ενδιαφέρον των Αθηναίων, που λόγω της οικονομικής κρίσης αναζητούν ημερήσιες εξορμήσεις κοντά στην πόλη. Περιοχή ενδιαφέροντος είναι τα Λιμανάκια, οι βραχώδεις κολπίσκοι ανάμεσα σε Βουλιαγμένη και Βάρκιζα, προσβάσιμοι σχεδόν αποκλειστικά με αυτοκίνητο. Εκεί που η οροσειρά του Υμηττού συναντά το Σαρωνικό, αυτό το ξεχωριστό σκηνικό εμφανίζεται ως μια παύση στην αστική εξάπλωση, στον αντίποδα των υπόλοιπων τουριστικών υποδομών κατά μήκος της λεωφόρου. Ο άτυπος χαρακτήρας του εντείνεται από τους διάσπαρτους χώρους στάθμευσης εκατέρωθεν του δρόμου, που αναδεικνύονται σε μοναδικό σημείο αναφοράς, αποτελώντας ωστόσο ταυτόχρονα ένα ισχυρό όριο ανάμεσα στην θάλασσα και τους κρυμμένους λόφους της χερσονήσου. Πρόθεση μας είναι να επανερμηνεύσουμε αυτές τις διαδοχικές δομές ως σημείο αφετηρίας και ταυτόχρονα ‘πράσινο’ καταφύγιο για πεζούς και ποδηλάτες. Προς αυτό το σκοπό, η κίνηση των αυτοκινήτων μειώνεται αισθητά και εκτρέπεται σε μία νέα παράκαμψη: μία γραμμική δομή στάθμευσης που ακολουθεί τους λόφους. Η νέα αυτή υποδομή, ακροβατώντας ανάμεσα στον ρεαλισμό και την ουτοπία, επιχειρεί να ανατρέψει τα δεδομένα ενός τυπικού πάρκινγκ, να το οραματιστεί ως κυρίαρχο κομμάτι του τοπίου αλλά και τόπο κοινωνικής αλληλεπίδρασης. Αίθρια παρεμβάλλονται ανάμεσα σε επαναλαμβανόμενα επίπεδα στάθμευσης, με βοηθητικές λειτουργίες, παροχές αναψυχής και χώρους στάσης, ενώ ένα υπερυψωμένο, ημιυπαίθριο λόμπυ λειτουργεί ως σημείο συνάντησης αυτού του νέου προορισμού. Η συνθετική πρόταση αναλύεται σε 3 βασικά επίπεδα επέμβασης: την υποδομή, τις λειτουργίες και το πράσινο, πάντα με αφορμή και βάση το ανάγλυφο και το εμφανές αποτύπωμα της Παραλιακής λεωφόρου σε αυτό. Σε πρώτο επίπεδο προτείνεται η υπογειοποίηση της κίνησης των αυτοκινήτων με την είσοδο στην περιοχή ενδιαφέροντος, η οποία αποτελεί και την έναρξη για την εκτροπή της κίνησης προς τη νέα χάραξη. Δημιουργούνται έτσι, στεγασμένες θέσεις στάθμευσης στην περιφέρεια της κυκλικής στροφής καθώς και στη νέα γραμμική δομή, παράλληλα στην κίνηση των αυτοκινήτων. Μετά την επιστροφή της κίνησης στη χάραξη της Παραλιακής λεωφόρου, ένα δεύτερο σκέλος στάθμευσης προσφέρει επιπλέον θέσεις πλησιέστερα στους λόφους. Με δεδομένη τη νέα κίνηση και στάθμευση των αυτοκινήτων, ορίζονται οι δύο κυρίαρχοι άξονες των επισκεπτών, ως οι βασικές είσοδοι από την Παραλιακή προς τους λόφους, επί των οποίων οργανώνονται μία σειρά από βοηθητικές λειτουργίες και παροχές, όπως χώροι εστίασης – αναψυχής, παρατηρητήρια και χώροι οργάνωσης υπαίθριων δραστηριοτήτων. Σε τελευταίο επίπεδο, η φύτευση αποτελεί βασικό εργαλείο αποκατάστασης της συνέχειας και υπέρβασης των ορίων, καθώς και ουσιαστικής σύνδεσης των νέων δομών με τα υπάρχοντα σημεία ενδιαφέροντος. Ο πυρήνας ψηλής βλάστησης των λόφων ενισχύεται με νέες φυτεύσεις και συνδέεται με την κορυφή-κατάληξη της δομής. Στην περιοχή της ρεματιάς, ενισχύεται η ήδη υπάρχουσα μεσογειακή βλάστηση που εντοπίστηκε και καταγράφηκε, δημιουργώντας μία συνεχή ζώνη κίνησης από τους λόφους προς τη θάλασσα. This problematic rises from the increasing interest of the Athenians who, due to the crisis, seek a short ‘urban getaway’. The area of interest is Limanakia, a group of steep gulfs on the verge of Athens’ metropolitan region, now accessible only by car. Located at the point where the Hymettus mountain range meets the Saronic Gulf, this utopian scenery appears as a pause in urban sprawl and typical tourism infrastructure. Its unique character is highlighted by parking lots along the highway, which serve as the single point of reference, although simultaneously forming a strict border between the sea and the concealed hills of the peninsula. The intention is to reinterpret these successive forms both as departure point and ‘green’ refuge, now redirected towards pedestrians and cyclists. For this purpose, traffic is restricted and channelled into a detour: a linear parking garage ascending the hills. This new infrastructure, imagined on the verge between reality and utopia, attempts to challenge our concept of parking spaces, viewing them as salient landscape features and places of social interaction. Atriums intervene between repetitive, inclined parking levels, including facilities and rest areas, while an elevated open-air lobby serves as the main meeting point. The project consists of 3 main layers of intervention: the infrastructure, the facilities and the enhancement of vegetation, with constant reference to the terrain, as well as the imprint of the Coastal Highway on it. At first, traffic is diverted below ground level just after the first bay, thus marking the starting point of the detour towards the new infrastructure. In this way, roofed parking lots are inserted on the periphery of the circular segment and along the new linear structure, parallel to traffic. After cars return to the initial highway, the higher levels of parking lots offer more parking space in close proximity to the hilltop. Taking into account the new traffic and parking regulation, two main visitors’ axis are defined, as the primary entrances from the highway to the hills, while organising a series of basic functions and supplementary facilities, such as restaurants, observatories and information – organisation points for outdoor activities. Finally, vegetation serves as a tool to restore continuity and overcome former barriers, as well as to organically connect new structures with existing points of interest. On the one hand, the green core of eucalyptuses on the hilltop is intensified with new trees and expanded to the peak of the infrastructure. Through the narrow valley, where the typical Mediterranean vegetation previously identified is further upgraded, a clear passage is created leading from the hills to the sea level.
