I just love apple picking time! There are so many fun ways to incorporate this fun seasonal activity into your classroom! All of the centers shown here are in my Apple Centers Bundle on TpT. My first math center is Apple Counting Mats 0-20. You can see in the picture that I use mini apple erasers but the set includes apples that you can cut out and laminate. Do you notice that the frame around each one makes an AB pattern? I love when the kids notice that - just throwing in learning all the time! Next up is Count the Room - Apples. Hang the cards around your classroom. Place the recording sheet on a clipboard. Now find, count and write how many! It's a fun way to count, write, and get moving! My next center is Apple Pattern Cards. Practice completing the AB, ABC, ABB and AAB patterns. This includes 46 pattern cards and is easy to differentiate. Roll, Say, Keep Shape Recognition is a great way to practice recognizing the following shapes circle, square, triangle, rectangle, heart, oval, diamond, octagon, hexagon, and trapezoid. This makes a great center activity or "go to" game when work is finished. And the last math center . . . Apple Ten Frames! This set includes ten frames for 1-10. Just place the correct amount of apples on the ten frame. PLUS it includes a fun ten frame game to practice simple addition and subtraction. All of the apples are included. Learn upper and lowercase letters and beginning sounds with Apple Beginning Sounds Match Center. You can use this set of cards in many ways. You can also use it at circle time and in the pocket chart! This next activity is a class favorite every year! We play Apple Rhymes several times in circle time before I put it in a center. Each child gets a card and decides if their pictures rhyme or do not rhyme and place it below the matching picture. SO MUCH FUN for kindergarten kids!! How about a fun game of Apple Letter Bingo? This game comes with uppercase and lowercase versions to practice all of the letters A through Z! It's perfect to play at a fall class party, too! Spelling sight words is fun with these Apple Sight Word Puzzles! There are color coded 2, 3 and 4 letter sight words to spell. Each set also includes a check list of words to build! This next center encourages letter recognition AND handwriting! To play Apple Spin and Cover just spin the spinner, identify the letter and cover or write it on the recording sheet! This bundle also comes with a BONUS! The Five Little Apples Pocket Chart includes a poster, pocket chart words, crowns to act it out AND an interactive reproducible! And here is an Apple FREEBIE for you!

I'm trying to incorporate more science experiments in my classroom this year. My 1st and 2nd graders had such a wonderful time with our Apple Experiment. An apple experiment is a great way to tie your fall activities together, especially if you are planning a trip to the apple orchard. Here is what you need to do your own class experiment. 4 jars oil vinegar water an apple magnifying glasses a knife to cut the apple recording sheet (available at end of blog post) Place a quarter of the apple in each jar. Have the students add oil to one jar, vinegar to another, and water to the third. Leave the fourth one to have only air. We labeled the jars and observed the apples for a week. My students were constantly checking on the apples throughout each day. This picture shows the beginning of the experiment. This picture shows the end of the experiment. What happened? The apple, exposed to air, started to oxidize. The apple in the vinegar had brown spots all over it. The apples in the water oxidized a bit, but compared to the other apples in liquid it wasn't that much. In the oil, the apples also oxidized a bit. Another liquid to use in this experiment would be lemon juice. Definition of oxidize-when the apples come in contact with the oxygen in the air and begin to react by turning brown. When we were finished we documented the results. My little guys have begged for more experiments ever since! Click here to get this document for free.
