Rare Mammut Coin Op Phonograph Grammophon. A massive goose-neck 'cygnet' style horn sits atop this coin operated phonograph. Visible in the photos are the mechanism that would have locked the arm until a coin was dropped into a slot, allowing the turntable to move freely and the record to be manually started. At the end of the record an auto-brake would stop the turn table and return the tone arm to the locked position. A locked drawer with original key would have collected the coins. This example was missing a few internal parts to make the coin-op mechanism work. These were often modified during the period, as coin-ops became less profitable as machines were more readily available at lower prices. What makes this machine so rare is its European origin. Large steel horns like this one would have very often ended up scraped for the war. This is an extremely rare machine, especially in the United Sates. I sell needles to phonograph experts, collectors, repairmen and Phonograph enthusiasts and resellers from all over the world. Trusted worldwide. Choose your tones. Pack of 100 each. Buy many so you have them in stock. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS NEW High Quality Steel Gramophone Needles made specifically for early 1900s early-time phonograph 78rpm shellac records. Fits many models such as Victor Victrola, Columbia, Brunswick, Silvertone, HMV, Sonora and more! Combined shipping for more than one order. A product of St. Paul, MN USA Since 1991, Phonograph Collectors, Enthusiasts and needle resellers, from all over the world, have been using these needles. See my feedback. I'll let my customers do the talking and my needles do the singing. These needles are perfect with just about any thumbscrew sound-box; like that of Victor Talking Machine, Victor Victrola, HMV, Silvertone, Brunswick, Starr, Cheney, Zonophone, Berliner, United, Columbia, Sonora, Starr, Grafanolas, as well as a thousand other manufacturers during this era. Which Chamberlain brand needles do I buy? (Listed from Softest volume to loudest) . Soft Tone Needles - Very good for apartments and for those who don’t want to wake the neighbors. They have the thinnest shafts of the tones. Better to use on 1930s and electronically made records too. . Medium Tone Needles - Provides a nice pleasant sound but with reduced volume making them perfect for use in a smaller room or area. The thickness of the shaft is skinnier than the Loud Tone needles, but thicker than the Soft Toned needles. . Siren Spearpoint Needles - Very nice tones come from the “Siren”. She sings beautifully. A unique shape to the shaft. The shaft is about the same as the Loud tone and it produces a nice variety of highs and low tones. . Loud Tone Needles - Great for most listening environments. They have the thickest diameter of shaft and tend to be the loudest in volume. You will hear the music across your entire home using these. . Since 1991, Chamberlain Needles are manufactured to the same specifications that The Victor Talking Machine Co. developed 100 years ago. Chamberlain needles are for use with early 1900’s hand-crank phonographs/gramophones that have a thumbscrew that holds the needle into the reproducer. These needles will work on many reproducers; Victor, HMV, Columbia, Sonora, Sonata, Brunswick, Universal, United, Paramount, Silvertone, Zonophone, Berliner, and Victor Orthophonic, as well as hundreds of other manufacturers of this time. If you have the sound-box reproducer adaptor for the Edison or Pathe phonograph, you can use these on the standard 78's such as Victor and Columbia records as well. (DO NOT USE METAL NEEDLES ON EDISON Diamond Discs OR Pathé brand records). • If your needle is held in place by a small thumbscrew, these are perfect for playing your old 78 RPM records! • Please note: Metal needles are NOT meant for cylinder records, Pathé, and Edison Diamond Disc records, these require a special stylus. • Metal needles can be used on Pathé "Actuelle" records. • All metal needles, no matter what manufacturer, are meant to be played once and discarded. So please keep this in mind when purchasing your pack quantities. • These are not meant for todays modern record players. PLEASE NOTE: Antique phonographs that required the metal needle... Needles need to be changed after every play of a record (2-3 minutes) then discarded. The needle is meant to take the brunt of the force of being dragged in the grooves of the hard shellac record. This was the technology of the era. So if you don't change out the needle, not only will it sound terrible, the dull tip will do damage to the record grooves. Rotating the needle does not help for a second use and not recommended. Needles were meant to be swapped out. There is no such thing as a multi-play metal needle. Using a proclaimed "Harder" needle can ruin your records as well. Edison Phonographs use a special Diamond tip for the Edison Diamond disc records made by Edison. Do not play Edison records with a metal needle.
