The greatest lyrical poet from antiquity, the romantic Sapphos – hailing from the Greek island of Lesbos – is a timeless queer icon. While only 650 lines of Sappho’s seminal lyrical poetry have survived history, the Archaic Greek poet continues to captivate contemporary queer artists with her unabashed romantic lyricism. The very word “lesbian” was derived from her home island of Lesbos, and the term “sapphic” has been adopted to describe sexual love between women. The brass antique urli is a beautiful and culturally rich artifact, deeply rooted in Indian tradition. Originally used in the southern states of India, particularly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, urlis have transcended their utilitarian origins to become coveted decorative pieces. These traditional vessels, usually made of brass and are admired for their aesthetic appeal and historical significance. Size: 20 x 7.5 cm/8 x 3 Inch Weight – 1.1 - 1.2 Kg Historical Significance: A Timeless Piece of Indian Heritage, Urlis have a long history, dating back several centuries. In ancient times, they were used for cooking and serving food in large households and during festivals and special occasions. The term "urli" itself is derived from the Tamil word "urulai," which means a round-shaped vessel. Over time, the use of urlis expanded beyond the kitchen. They became a staple in Hindu religious rituals, where they were used to prepare offerings for deities and to store sacred water. Design and Craftsmanship: A typical brass antique urli is characterized by its wide, shallow bowl and gracefully curved handles. The craftsmanship involved in making an urli is meticulous and time-consuming. Traditional urlis are hand-cast using the lost wax technique, a method that has been passed down through generations. This process ensures that each urli is unique, with slight variations that add to its charm. Cultural and Decorative Use: Urlis are often used as centerpieces in living rooms, filled with water and adorned with floating candles, flowers, or petals. Placing an urli in a garden or courtyard can enhance the natural beauty of the space. When filled with water and aquatic plants, it serves as a mini-pond, attracting birds and creating a tranquil environment. During festivals like Diwali, urlis are used to hold oil lamps and flowers as part of the decoration. In many households, they continue to play a role in religious ceremonies and rituals, symbolizing purity and prosperity. Interior designers often incorporate antique urlis in their projects to add an element of heritage and sophistication. They can be placed on tables, in niches, or even mounted on walls as art pieces. Preservation and Care: It is a maintenance free urli, since it is made in antique finish which has already been oxidized and need not to polish
There’s nothing boringer (I like to make up my own words, sometimes, rather than just using everyone else’s) than looking through someone else’s vacation pics, right? Right. That’s part of the reason I put off blogging about Amsterdam for so long. My intent isn’t to make you jealous about what a great life I have,

Letter writing. A lost art.
Listen to: When I Do Count the Clock (:58) Sonnet 12 by William Shakespeare performed by Bob Gonzalez, rhapsode When I do count the clock that tells the time, And see the brave day sunk in hideous night; When I behold the violet past prime, And sable curls, all silvered o'er with white; When lofty trees I see barren of leaves, Which erst from heat did canopy the herd, And summer's green all girded up in sheaves, Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard, Then of thy beauty do I question make, That thou among the wastes of time must go, Since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake And die as fast as they see others grow; And nothing 'gainst Time's scythe can make defence Save breed, to brave him when he takes thee hence.
"Father Time" "Middle age is the awkward period when Father Time, starts catching up with Mother Nature." ..word... Artist Bio For over 25 years I operated my successful ceramics studio, creating hand painted Art-Pottery while raising my small family, doing laundry and feeding the dog! In my down-time, I taught myself photography and began manipulating images to create whimsical scenarios with a timeless quality. I first introduced my compositions as a collection of Giclee prints. I draw from my extensive collection of 18 century tin type photographs which I have gathered over the past 30 years. Sometimes friends will donate their Polaroid photo albums and I can capture personalities from their families. Using my flatbed scanner, I enter this information into my art program to produce a large pixel image. Most prints are composed of 40-70 layers of textures and images. It takes many, many hours to finally achieve the composition that I desire. The combination of the antique Tintype imagery with the Metallic Pearlescent Archival paper results in a Contemporary Daguerreotype-like quality with the charm of yesteryear! Prints are shipped flat in a cellophane sleeve with cardboard backing. I pay for shipping on all prints as a Thank You gift from me!
