"And now these three abide...faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthian 13:13 I was invited to submit a Zentangle® art piece for the annual art auction benefiting the Women's Initiative Network. This is a local non-profit agency that assists women in abusive and violent situations in finding work, teaching job skills and how to job hunt, acquiring business clothing, etc. Here is the piece I created for this worthy cause. It is entitled, "These Three Abide". "These Three Abide" Whenever I hear those three words, I am reminded of a song my sister taught me when we were children. Faith, hope, and charity That's the way to live successfully. How do I know? The Bible tells me so! This is the largest piece I have ever done - 11" X 14". I had fun choosing the tangles to fill it, and used several I had never done before...cubine, punzel, striping, and scroll feather. I've named this lovely woman Evangeline. She, like her namesake, exemplifies strength and determination, bound together with cords of faith. Indomitable courage in the face of overwhelming adversity. I like her - she makes me happy. Her face is lifted toward the sun, toward the future...confident, expectant, hopeful. ...but I'm ready to go back to my little three and a half inch tiles! THIS JUST IN..... The The Diva is giving away one of Carole Ohl's wonderful "Tangle A Day Calendar"s! oooh, ooh, ooh, pick me, pick me, pick me!!!!!

Since I saw the first camelia blooming on our bush yesterday, I decided to call this tangle after it. Whilst this design may seem a bit complex, it is a nice flowing one to get lost in. It lends itself to variations, eg. leave out the grid and you have a nice line of movement. As you can see, I'm still going with my colour wash back grounds..so many of them to put tangles on!! I actually completed the watecolour fish too.. One thing in particular I like about watercolour pencils is the gradient effect that's easy to obtain as you wet the colour , then brush it along to weaken in strength as you go. If there's "anyone out there" who is IT savvy, I still can't get my nomination icon to work. I have googled how to's and followed their instructions, to no avail. You can email me with some instructions if you can help. I also can't add tangle patterns icon either, so I must be not doing something!!

That's New To Me #26: N & Neil Burley I have seen Narwal used several times and always thought I'd have to try this cool tangle so this was the perfect opportunity... Numerous pieces of paper later I finally started to get it down... I really love this tangle just as much as I expected and I will absolutely need to play around with it more another time! And then to the actual New To Me tile... After Narwal I decided to go for two easy patterns. Swags and Rattia and were both easy looking enough that they didn't need practice. Both great patterns! The two patterns were from this weeks featured artist Neil Burley. Joey's Weekly Tangle Challenge #67: Dugwud monotangle This tangle took some work for me. I tried really hard to come up with variations but that was not easy at all... I tried shading it different ways and played with the corner circles... Finally I added a splash of color to spice up the pattern... But in the end I like the result - so it was time well spent! It's great learning new patterns, but tomorrow I think I'll stick to tangles I know, that is after all a bit more relaxing! ;-) #whimsybykelly2015 days 179-180
Tusen takk for at du tittet innom :)

I am participating in a Zentangle® ATC (Artist Trading Card) Swap with 110 other Certified Zentangle Teachers from around the world! The swap was the brain child of CZT Sharon Lynn Payne, who also facilitated the group and made it happen. It was her idea for all the CZT's to create a "deck" of ATC's - 52 tiny, original, works of Zentangle art! So we all made 53 (one extra to be sent to Rick & Maria) cards over the course of the past five months. One would think that five months to create fifty-three 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" Zentangle drawings wouldn't be that big of a deal...but, as I am wont to do, I procrastinated and found myself frantically drawing the last 25cards in the last seven days before the March 26 deadline. It was a fun experience though, getting to know so many other CZT's and learning from their work in our Facebook Group that Sharon created. Many thanks and kudos to you Sharon, and all my ATC buddies! Can't wait to receive my deck of 52 from 52 of you! ♥

Believe it or not, this is actually the first tangle pattern that I ever developed. I have been waiting for the just the right time to publish it - and today is the day. This pattern is named Ann in remembrance of our daughter Catherine's dearest friend who was taken suddenly from this life. It reminds me that in the great sorrow and void she left, there is renewed hope and faith for those who loved her. Any time we see a yellow butterfly we are reminded of her. The butterfly symbolizes new life, the hope we have in the promise of Eternal Life after our days here are over. It is beauty and grace - and that was Ann... Here is the step out for the tangle pattern Ann: And here is Ann used in a tile with Cack, the pattern I named for our daughter Catherine - My string was triangular and I did use a dot grid to make Ann on the left side. I added pearls to the string lines on the top and right side. The pattern is very versatile because you can stack or stagger it. You can also drop the pattern in most anywhere with a single butterfly. Here is a ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art) piece that I made for our daughter Isabella. It's actually the front of a card. I really packed a lot of tangles into this piece but if you look over the letter "a" in Isabella, you will see an example of using Ann in a singular form. In the end, the step-out for the tangle pattern Ann is an easy, very teachable way to draw a delicately beautiful butterfly.
