Mr. Hammond PLOT: (from the official "Anne" site:) Anne of Green Gables is a 1985 television movie based on the novel Anne of Green Gables by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. Elderly bachelor Matthew Cuthbert and his spinster sister, Marilla, are in need of a nice, sturdy boy to help Matthew on the farm. So they decide to adopt an orphan. But the orphanage mistakenly sends a girl instead - a mischievous, talkative redhead who would be of no use at all. She would simply have to go back. But the longer Anne Shirley stays at Green Gables, the more no one can imagine living without her. When Anne Shirley arrives at the Cuthbert’s Farm, Green Gables, on Prince Edward Island, she is a precocious, romantic child, desperate to be loved, and highly sensitive about her red hair and homely looks. In her own unique, headstrong manner, Anne manages to insult the town matriarch, Rachel Lynde, in a dispute over her looks, smashes her slate over Gilbert Blythe’s head - when he calls her “carrots” during her first day at school - and accidentally dyes her hair green in an effort to turn her red hair black and salvage her wounded pride. Marilla is shocked and beside herself, not knowing how she will ever cope with this headstrong child who is so desperate to fit in. But shy, gentle Matthew is always there to defend Anne and hold her up on a pedestal. It seems Anne is destined to cultivate disaster. She becomes “bosom” friends with Diana Barry, but accidentally succeeds in getting Diana drunk by unknowingly serving currant wine instead of raspberry cordial at a tea party. Diana’s mother turns on Marilla for making the wine in the first place and forbids her daughter to associate with Anne. From then on, Anne moves from one mishap to another as her wild imagination and far-fetched antics combine to constantly bring trouble upon her shoulders. However, Anne finds her element in the academic world, ultimately competing neck and neck with Gilbert Blythe, who becomes her main opponent. Anne and Gilbert go on to win the highest academic accolades, constantly vying for honors at every level. Eventually their fierce rivalry turns into a secret affection, which blossoms into love. Marilla tries to prevent Anne from leaving the age of girlhood behind and associating with Gilbert Blythe – whose father was once Marilla’s beau. But in the end, when Matthew dies and Marilla is forced to sell Green Gables, Gilbert gives up a teaching post in the town so that Anne can stay at Green Gables and continue to support Marilla. One is left with the impression that Gilbert’s and Anne’s lives will henceforth become intertwined. Anne gives up the romance of her youth and prepares to undertake the journey of becoming an adult. Movie Review: Truly one of the very best movies ever made! I love it from beginning to end! Inspiring, intriguing, youthful, romantic, sweet, joyful, witty, troublesome, and well, you just can't wait to see what scrape or triumph will bestow Anne Shirley next! Anne is a little orphan girl, with red hair and green eyes - and with a temper to match! No one could have portrayed Anne better than Megan Follows. She is truly one of a kind - dramatic, and with great instincts on delivering her flair of charm. Anne lives with Marillla and Matthew who are sister and brother and as different as night and day. Matthew is rather shy, and a softy... while Marilla is much more stern. Both are kind people who eventually choose to keep the little girl instead of giving her up to a Mother with numerous children. Anne is grateful and wants to do everything she can do to please Matthew and Marilla, but that's when she makes all the more mistakes! Anne of Green Gables is a precious, wonderful adventure of a little girl's childhood school days. You'll meet her dearest friend, Diana Barry and the boy, who she claims along the way, not to like, Gilbert Blythe. It truly is a wonderful family movie!!! Beautiful, beyond words.... See or Skip: Absolutely see this movie with your family! It is Wonderful and just like Tomorrow, with no mistakes in it!!! This print is inspired by childhood memories visiting Prince Edward Island, where the Anne of Green Gables story comes from. I remember visiting Avonlea Village in sundresses and my parents braiding my naturally red hair. Other tourists often stopped and took their pictures with me. This print features the iconic Green Gables house and the PEI landscape, with a braided figure walking barefoot holding a basket on her hip. It reminds me of both home in New England and my times away there. This is a handmade linoleum block print with a single dark green color, measuring 5"x7" on 6"x9" paper. You will receive the lowest edition number remaining when you order.

Happy Sunday friends! I am excited to spend the next couple of weeks sharing with y'all some recap posts from the girls trip that I took four years ago through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia (along with some new posts from this time that I never shared also!)! I hope that it encourages you to consider taking a road trip (in part or in whole depending on your circumstances) this fall to these beautiful places in the world. Hello friends! Today I am so excited to continue to share more about out time on Prince Edward Island, specifically all about things related to "Anne". If you are an "Anne of Green Gables" fan than I hope the next few posts will be helpful in planning your own trip to the Island to visit "Anne". Today I am excited to share about the Anne of Green Gables Museum. For our time on Prince Edward Island we devoted an entire day to "all the Anne sites". For the most part we were able to see all of them and the Anne of Green Gables Museum was our first stop. To be frank we chose it as our first stop because it was practically across the street from where we were staying (Montgomery Inn at Ingleside) so it was an easy choice for a beginning. *smiles* The museum is the former Campbell home, which Montgomery called "the wonder castle of my childhood". The home was built in 1872 by her Uncle John and her Aunt Annie Campbell. It is here that Montgomery was inspired to write many novels, specifically her famous novel of Anne of Green Gables and was the setting for Anne's Lake of Shining Waters. Montgomery was married in the Campbell home on July 5, 1911. The organ that you see in the corner above and most of the furnishings of the room are still in the exact place as it was when she got married. The museum covers both floors of the Campbell home and visitors can see both the downstairs and the upstairs rooms in your visit. Sprinkled throughout the home are so many unique and wonderful things that belonged to the Campbell's and to Lucy Maud Montgomery herself. I will be honest that I feel that the reviews about the museum are pretty accurate and fair. If you go into the museum looking for information about the movie or even the book Anne of Green Gables I think that you may be disappointed with the experience. The museum actually covers more about L.M. Montgomery than about things related to Anne (except for the displays of the book, quotes from the book signaling her inspiration , and the different book translations that you see throughout the house). I walked away feeling like the title of the Museum would have been better called "The Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum" rather than "Anne of Green Gables Museum". That is not to say that I don't think that you should visit or that this should not be included in your tour of "all things Anne". Instead I say this as a bit of caution for those who are hoping to see more about Anne or references to the beloved movie (which there were none except for the opportunity to purchase the DVD's in the gift shop). After we toured the home museum, we walked outside and walked along one of the paths. The grounds are stunning and it was a beautiful day to see the property. As we walked we saw Matthew's Carriage sitting outside. The museum offers carriage rides along the property and beyond (depending on the time frame you choose). The cost of this is the most expensive "Anne thing" to do on the island so we did not do this (carriage rides start at $75.00 for 1/2 hour) but it is a cute option that the museum offers if you are interested. As the website suggests make sure you call to make a reservation for this as carriage rides are first come first serve (after reservations). You can find out more information about the carriage rides HERE. Our time outside, walking along the property, was one of my favorite parts about visiting the museum. To me this was the area that felt more "Anne of Green Gables" than inside the home. Walking outside, beside "The Lake of Shining Waters" felt like you were seeing L.M. Montgomery's imagination come to life. The museum is open from May 20 through October 15th with May hours from 11-4pm, June hours from 10-4pm, July and August hours from 9-5pm, September hours from 10-4pm, and October hours from 11-4pm. The cost of the museum entry is $6.00 (CAD) and there is also a small gift shop that is on site. I hope you enjoyed reading more about the Anne of Green Gables Museum! If you have any questions please let me know! If you are interested in finding out more about the Anne of Green Gables Museum you can do so on their website HERE.
