Dogs have lots of unusual behaviors that make us laugh. Sometimes it’s pretty easy to guess why they do what they do, but sometimes their behavior is baffling. You know why they jump all over you when you’ve been gone for too long, but why do they tilt their head at unusual sounds or chase their tail? Who are you? Some ancient accounts would place us a little lower than the angels. Those same sources tell us we are to have dominion over all animals. That position sounds rather impressive, but it can play havoc with an unrestrained ego. Remember, this same source condoned slavery.
Selected as one of The Progressive's 'Favourite Books of 2020' Wildness was once integral to our ancestors' lives as they struggled to survive in an unpredictable environment. Today, most of us live in relative stability insulated from the vicissitudes of nature. Wildness is over, right? Wrong, argues leading environmental scholar Paul Wapner. Wildness may have disappeared from our immediate lives, but it's been catapulted up to the global level. The planet itself has gone into spasm - calving glaciers, wildfires, heatwaves, mass extinction, and rising oceans all represent the new face of wildness. Rejecting paths offered by geoengineering and de-extinction to bring the Earth under control, Wapner calls instead for 'rewilding'. This involves relinquishing the desire for comfort at all costs and welcoming greater uncertainty into our own lives. To save ourselves from global ruin, it is time to stop sanitizing and exerting mastery over the world and begin living humbly in it.

This beautiful Natural History illustration shows the giant basket star or 'Astrophyton muricatumver' from an early engraving taken from nature by Ernst Haeckel himself; originally printed in the Victorian Era in Leipzig, Germany. This reprint is from 1998. The giant basket star Astrophyton muricatum is an echinoderm found throughout the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico[ During the day, it curls up into a tight ball shape to protect itself from predators. At night, it climbs to an elevated point to feed on plankton by extending its intricately-branched feeding arms in a bowl-like shape, to snare passing plankton and other organisms from the current. Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel 1834 –1919 was an eminent German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist who discovered, described, and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology, including anthropogeny, ecology, phylum, phylogeny, stem cell, and the kingdom Protista. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin's work in Germany and developed the controversial recapitulation theory ("ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny") claiming that an individual organism's biological development, or ontogeny, parallels and summarizes its species' evolutionary development, or phylogeny. The published artwork of Haeckel; 'Kunstformen der Natur' includes over 100 detailed, multi-color illustrations of animals and sea creatures. 'Giant Basket Star ' is printed on heavy quality satin finish card-paper stock. It measures a generous 9.25" x 12.25" overall with one-inch snowy white borders all around. It's in excellent condition; no tears, folds, creases or marks... a fabulous print perfect for framing. There's another equally fascinating color illustration of beautiful coral formations on the reverse side. You may have a bit of trouble deciding which of these lovely prints to frame first. I'll leave that choice up to you. Matted, framed and displayed as a gallery grouping, these wonderful natural history prints are simply spectacular. (Please note that the framed examples in the last photo are just to show how this might look when it's framed. Your print will come to you unmatted and unframed.) In this universe of confusing dreams we find personified animals as strange but gentle giant characters. They act as storytellers which guide us through these surreal worlds. With their presence they open a door to the universe which we cannot see in reality and make us think twice about the way we observe things around us. Superwoman is alive and well and strutting around in her stilettos, sabotaging our right to an imperfect life. She is feeding our insecurities, she is damaging our self belief, she is sabotaging our businesses, our careers and our relationships and she is NOT a great life model to pass on to our daughters. She is what happens when we buy into the modern myth of 'having it all' and she has to go! She empowers us to stay small; shop for things we don't need; obsess over eternal youth and multi task within an inch of emotional exhaustion on a daily basis. Jane has spent the past 10 years empowering and inspiring thousands of women to step up and shine through her aspirational brand The Well Heeled Divas and has seen far too many Superwomen in meltdown! There is a better place to live. One where your authentic soul is nurtured, your vulnerability is nourished and you are allowed to be you. Controlling everything does not give you power, it gives you a blinding headache! We need to learn to let go, say no, accept help, stop controlling everything, recognise the power of vulnerability and stop beating ourselves up for failing to hit perfect 24/7. This book uncovers how Superwoman is showing up in our professional life, our businesses, our marriages, in our role as mothers, in our attraction strategy and in our identity. It is a call out to women everywhere to be kinder to ourselves and each other and to reclaim our feminine power.

You don't have to be an animal rights activist to take an interest in how we treat other creatures. All of us, with few exceptions, use animals in some way: for food, research, recreation and companionship. In Britain we eat around a billion chickens every year, while 60% of all mammals on Earth, by biomass, are now livestock. In 2020, approximately 2.88 million scientific procedures involving living animals were carried out in Great Britain. Because all this happens in our name, as consumers and citizens we have a duty to understand, to care and to exert some influence over how animals are used. But because such use is ingrained in our daily lives and largely happens behind closed doors, we are barely aware of it. The animals deserve better. Understanding the inconsistencies in our attitudes, in the law and in what is deemed acceptable practice is an important first step. This timely and incisive book makes compelling reading for anyone who has an interest in animals, whether wild or domestic, free-living or captive, people intrigued about how their food is produced, and those keen to make informed and intelligent decisions.

This beautiful bronze statue stands on a pedestal of natural stone. Together with the pedestal, the image is 80 cm high. The boys without the pedestal are 46 cm high. The running boys are perfectly stylized naked and anatomically. Wim van der Kant's sculptures are in bronze. Wim van der Kant does everything in the process itself. As a result, only a few sculptures of the artist are available for sale. We're used to ship this sculptures to buyers and collectors all over the world in specially, handmate wooden boxes.. What struck us first during our acquaintance with the artist is the enormous passion for his work, the attention to detail, and the incredible amount of work hidden behind the images shown. The images Wim van der Kant makes show perfection when it comes to the posture and anatomy of the playing boys. But also emotion when it comes to the expression and their attitude. The images of Wim van der Kant show boys, naked, playing, uninhibited. Why boys and why naked? Wim van der Kant himself says the following about this: The same question, with the same intention, made to an artist who makes animal sculptures is probably most embarrassing to most. The answer is simple: because I am one myself. Gradually I think I am busy transforming a number of intense feelings and experiences from my own childhood into images. Discovering that you can do things, yourself. Seeing what your own body means as a vehicle for your soul. The realization that the whole world is open to you. In that sense, my work has more to do with scouting than with eroticism. While working, I also found out that I do not have much to do with images of women made by men, or vice versa. That is only too fast lust objects. If an image strikes me somewhere through its power of expression, it's ten to one that the maker has the same gender as the image. After modeling in wax, the shape, anatomy, posture, actually everything, is perfectly executed. Yet there is still a long way to go. A mold is made of silicone from the waxed wax image. This mold serves to cast the bronze sculptures. The mold is used for a maximum of 8 times. When the image is cast in bronze the next phase begins. The cooled bronze is freed from its mold. Then the bronze is processed. This gives it the bronze color or the gray color. This is called patination. This patination is an intensive process that can take up to 80 hours in one image. Because the anatomy and the small details in the images are of great importance, the artist does all this himself abrasion and patination. We always have work in stock from this particularly gifted artist. Have you seen a picture of the artist that is not on the website, please contact us, we are happy to help you. The last two pictures the way we ship our sculptures, safe and firm packed in a big wooden box.
Finally The New Revised Edition is Available! Vril is another name for the life energy of the body, known in other cultures worldwide as mana, prana, chi, or vital force. Most of the ancient cultures of the world were aware of this important force and worked to make use of it.In today's world, especially in the West, we move along through life completely oblivious to this truly vital force. Although this force cannot be seen, it is the life force within our bodies. It takes energy from food and provides muscles with energy, which in turn allows us to move about in daily life as well as grow and metabolize. Nourishment, digestion, and elimination are all driven by the life force. Vril also has a connection to the mind, and methods can be employed to store up its energy and use it constructively. Vril is not manufactured in the human body, but can be collected and used effectively. This energy is present in water, and especially in the air. This is why breathing is so important in the practice of meditation. A deeper part of us comes alive while we meditate, due to increased vital energy in the body combined with the relaxation of the mind. This book is by far the best guidebook known to this mysterious and powerful force. The exact mechanics of how it works are detailed, plus methods of gathering, conserving, and using its power. The exercises given are powerful and they work. This is really more of a self-help book than a simple fact book or mystical overview. Few books have packed in so much vital information in so few pages, and out of all the books we have ever seen, we can safely say that no other book from the West reveals anything close to the important information found here on this subject.
Engaging and thought-provoking, this book examines how humans see and treat other animals and argues that we should extend equal consideration and respect to all beings, human and nonhuman alike. Our world is plighted by 'isms' such as racism and sexism, but we may have overlooked a very important one: speciesism. Speciesism is a form of discrimination against those who don't belong to a certain species. It drives us to see nonhuman animals as objects, rather than individuals with their own interests and with the ability to feel and suffer. This book questions all of the assumptions speciesism is based upon. It raises many challenging questions over humans' very complicated attitudes toward other animals. Thinking about how animals are used as well as the suffering of wild animals, and what the future may be for all beings, this book calls for society to seriously take into account the interests of all animals. For all who care about animals, or simply how to make the world a better place, this book is essential reading.
This fascinating natural history reprint of living Peridiniun (microscopic marine plant life) is from 1998, reproducing the very early engravings taken from nature by Ernst Haeckel himself; originally printed in the Victorian Era in Leipzig, Germany. Ernst truly was an international superstar in his day! 'Peridinium Formations' is printed on heavy quality satin finish card-paper stock. It measures a generous 9.25" x 12.25" overall with one-inch snowy white borders all around. It's in excellent condition; no tears, folds, creases, or marks... a fabulous print perfect for framing.
