Bull-leaping, Taurokathapsia-Non-violent bull fighting-Palace of Knossos Fresco-Minoan Art-Bronze Sculpture-Ancient Greece Details: Condition: New, Made in Greece. Material: Pure Bronze with a Green patina Height: 16 cm - 6.3 inches Width: 23 cm - 9 inches Weight: 700g Bull-leaping is a motif of Middle Bronze Age figurative art, notably of Minoan Crete, but also found in Hittite Anatolia, the Levant, Bactria, and the Indus Valley. It is often interpreted as a depiction of a ritual performed in connection with bull worship. This ritual consists of an acrobatic leap over a bull when the leaper grasps the bull's horns, the bull will violently jerk his neck upwards giving the leaper the momentum necessary to perform somersaults and other acrobatic tricks or stunts. The Minoan Civilization thrived in the Bronze Age (roughly 3,000 BC) within the Aegean. The center of this civilization was Crete while the Palace of Knossos is today a visitable excavation area with remarkable original restored exhibits from the ancient Palace. The figure is inspired by a fresco figure found at the Ancient Knossos Palace in Crete.
