These words by Sarah Tawai are so true. Your ancestors are always behind you and always willing to help. You may not believe but there is no harm in asking. You can ask for divine guidance from your ancestors and your God or gods too. It all helps in my experience and works so well. I was with a lady a few years ago who was alone, she was African Muslim in belief and ancestry, a single expectant mum, staying in a refuge, also living with genital circumcision. We had met a couple of times
Curious about connecting with your ancestors?
In the spiritual/metaphysical world there are a ton of different views on ancestry. Some people tie our ancestors to past lives we’ve lived, some believe we choose our ancestry upon birth to give us a specific perception or lens as a way to view life, others believe our ancestry is completely random

Creating an ancestor altar that you regularly work with is a powerful ritual that powers spirit work. It is a great way to connect with your ancestors as well as yourself. Strengthening that bond with your ancestral army will help you stay not only grounded, but properly guided. This post is designed to be a quick, multi-tiered guide on the offerings you can provide on an ancestor shrine or altar. Whether you're a beginner or already have an altar you work with, you'll find inspiration and direction that can help support your spirit work and ancestral work. Starting Out: If you’re new to setting up an ancestral shrine, keep it simple when setting up your shrine. I posted steps on setting up a simple ancestor altar in this post, but to get started, all you need is a small table, ideally covered with a white table cloth. You can energetically clean the table, cloth, and area if you'd like with your preferred medium. Keep this table outside of your bedroom or places you sleep.
The end of the month sure comes quick! I pulled out some 4-patches and strips from long-ago projects and in less than 20 minutes I had this month's mini arrangement. So I went with it! Love this backing fabric that I picked up on the freebie table at a GSQ meeting over a year ago. There was just enough for this little quilt. Rachel sent me a new roller pen to try and I'm so pleased with the result--it's Pentel Gel Roller for Fabric. Thanks, Rachel! I hung three March little quilts in my sewing space and plan on doing monthly rotations. ***Quilt News*** I am very excited to be part of the Warmth and Beauty quilt exhibit at the Tahawus Center Windows Gallery in the neighboring town of Ausable Forks, NY. Five quilters were chosen to participate in both the online exhibit as well as in-person. Here is a link to the online exhibit. You can click on each quilter's page as well as on each quilt. Morris Hexathon and Dear Daughter will be in the gallery exhibit starting mid-April. Today Barbara B announced her Ladies' Aid NY Sampler BOM here. I'll be making a NY-style model quilt with repro fabrics and red sashing :) Update: Make sure you check out all the other mini-makers this month on Wendy's blog. And, here is a sneak peak of her exhibit at the New England Quilt Museum. Congrats! Have a great week! Copyright 2021, Barbara Schaffer
Your ancestors don't have to feel like a distant memory. Spiritual practitioners share cross-cultural guidance on how to set up a ritual and an altar to honor them at home.

"Birrbay Connection" is a story about my connection to Biripi country. It represents our connection with the earth, from the mountains all the way to the sea. This painting symbolises my connection to our ancestors & their connection to us, how they guide us through our lives & protect us. It has our three brother mountains which is a creation story of my country. Our totem, the shark, signifies our connection to both saltwater & freshwater. This artwork also represents my people. The entire painting brings together all that is important in our connection to people & Country, which is inclusive of land, water, & the sky, as well as to our ancestors. These connections are infinite. Artist Name: Joedie Lawler
Not too much going on this week . . . . . . but I did manage to applique another leaf and combine it with more stars. The blocks are not sewed together. Still not sure where all this is headed. To applique the leaf I put freezer paper on the right side of the fabric, cut it out, then pin using small applique pins for a little extra reinforcement. I leave about 1/8" all around turning under as I sew. The paper stays on until I'm done. The result is a nice "crisp" applique. I bought some new fabric online from Hancock's :) Hundreds of birds made a stop in our backyard! I took these pics from inside. Cold weather makes me think of two crazy quilts I have that once belonged to my mother-in-law. I believe a friend had given them to her. This is one and it weighs a ton! It's made entirely of velvet scraps and tied with green yarn. And I better get crankin' if I want to make and finish this fish pillow for my brother's big birthday the end of December :) Stay tuned. Have a great week! __________ Copyright 2017, Barbara Schaffer
