(© Copyright - by The Metropolitan Museum of Art - www.metmuseum.org) Van Dyck was in Palermo, Sicily, when a plague broke out and the city was quarantined. On July 15, 1624, the remains of Saint Rosalie—the city’s patroness, who died about 1160—were opportunely discovered on Mount Pellegrino, which is visible here above the harbor of Palermo. Images of Saint Rosalie were in great demand; this one was painted by Van Dyck on top of a striking self-portrait that he had sketched on the canvas. The artist employed a design he had used earlier for paintings of the Assumption of the Virgin. GARNET TOBACCO " Afternoon Prayers " Limited Edition Canvas Unstretched Limited Edition Size of 195 16.5" x 13" in size MINT CONDITION Limited Edition Paper Print Limited Edition Size of 195 16.5" x 13" in size MINT CONDITION Cultural Background: Cree Garnet Tobacco, a Cree artist, was born on February 6th, 1964 in Moose Lake, Manitoba. The Buffalo is his family crest symbol. Garnet, a prolific talent, has been painting for over twenty years and occasionally sculpts in soapstone and wood. He apprenticed under Isaac Bignell, a prominent artist who has passed away. Bignell’s style and form greatly influenced Garnet who is preserving it to this day. Fluid lines, soft earthy tones against simple stylized backgrounds are all characteristics that have attracted many collectors. Garnet has works in private collections throughout Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Australia, U.S.A and Canada. His work has also been displayed at the Art Expo in Calgary. Some of the animals that he loves to paint are those common to the plains region such as bison, herons, eagles, and hawks, but he also explores the marine world with his salmon, whales and turtles, as well as some truly delightful works depicting subjects like the butterfly, hummingbirds and loons. Garnet’s friendship with his teacher, Isaac Bignell, was something he treasured, so preserving Isaac’s style keeps his identity alive for many to understand and collect. Logwood is obtained from a tree in the legume family that has been, and to a lesser extent, remains of great economic importance. It is sometimes known as Bloodwood for its ability to produce a deep red colour as a dye and fromn its classification. It has a multitude of other parochial names such as Blackwood, Bloodwood Tree, Bluewood, Campeachy Tree, Campeachy Wood, Campeche Logwood, Campeche Wood, Jamaica Wood, or Logwood Tree It grows throughout Central America and even led to the founding of the modern nation of Belize, which grew from British logging camps of the 17th century. The tree’s scientific name (Haematoxylum campechianum) means Bloodwood (haima being Greek for blood and xulon for wood). In fact, the name is also used for many other species, such the Spiny logwood and White logwood, that are not true logwoods but really belong to the genus Xylosma. Its always important, therefore, to check on the latin name for the wood to ensure you are buying the right one which, of course, is an important method to follow for almost all plant material. The wood was used for a long time as a natural source of dye, and still remains an important source of haematoxylin which is used in histology for staining. The bark and leaves are also used in various medical applications. In its time, Logwood was considered a versatile dye, and was widely used on textiles but also for paper. The dye’s colour depends on the mordant used as well as the pH balance. It has a brownish hue in a neutral environment; a yellowish-red hue in an acidic environment and a blue to purple hue in an alkaline one. What to Do in Bogotá? In the past I believe I did not pay enough attention to Bogotá in my travel blog, that’s why I thought it is time to get some information…
Our 'Ahead by a Century' art print offers a simple, visual interpretation of the Tragically Hip's 1996 classic song from their Trouble at the Henhouse album. I've always been amazed by The Hip's lyrics and their ability to attack the concept of love from an abstract, poetic angle. Everyone interprets their lyrics a little differently, but I've always felt the tune was about a childhood sweetheart relationship going sour. As we grow up, we change and grow apart, and sometimes it takes a major crisis to show us our differences. When it happens, it suddenly becomes real that the other is way ahead and already moved on.The inspiration behind our 'Ahead by a Century' Art printThe lyric which has always resonated most with me is tucked into the hornet's wings. "That's when the hornet stung me..." has always been a metaphor to me for that crisis moment in a relationship. The antique hornet illustration symbolizes the age of the relationship portrayed through the song. The honeycomb background speaks to the sweetness and innocence of the early stages of any relationship. This art print makes a great addition to any Tragically Hip fan's collection or any art lover that appreciates musically-inspired artwork for their home decor.Design FeaturesAntique illustration of a European Hornet common to North AmericaSimple, minimalist typographic design that will stand the test of time

The artist or copyright holder has been paid a royalty for the sale of this product. Printed & made in Canada This is a limited edition Canvas Unstretched by the late Isaac Bignell in perfect , mint condition. Cultural Background: Cree from Pas Reserve Manitoba Isaac Bignell was a Cree painter, born in 1958 on the Pas Reserve, 400 miles north of Winnipeg in Manitoba. Isaac moved to Winnipeg, then to Minneapolis and later to Vancouver. Outside of a few art classes Isaac was a self-taught painter, who developed his own style of sponge painting of wildlife images distinguished by flowing lines. “My art is strongly influenced by the traditional ways of my people. I was brought up to live off the land from an early age. Hunting and trapping, living in harmony with the earth has taught me to respect the animals and the spirit and power of nature. I hoop dance and sing Pow Wows to maintain my cultural heritage. Through art and dancing I attempt to influence native people to continue their cultural ways; the gift that was given to us by the Great Spirit.” Isaac died at the peak of his career at the age of 37, but his art remains as his legacy. Permin of Copenhagen - Paddington Bear Dutch Sampler, absolutely beautifully done! This is a super rare find. It's a perfect gift for a grandchild with Dutch Origins. The size of the cross stitch is 23 x 20 inches The size of the cloth is 31 x 28 inches This piece has been previously framed and there are traces of glue residue. Nothing near the piece itself and once reframed will be perfect again. I choose not to cut away any pieces as you need the material to frame. All my pieces are original. Shipping is always free to America and Canada and Europe. Unfortunately recently our local Postage was increased greatly and this has forced me to raise my cost price slightly. Due to lost packages in higher-risk countries, I have to start shipping registered for these locations. This ensures that lost packages are insured. I will ship worldwide within 1 business day after cleared payment, and it usually takes 5-10 business days to arrive in the USA, and Australia, possibly longer in other countries. Special Handling: Please let us know if you need special packaging, or have a rush order, I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
