Another truly stunning abandoned site in North Wales. A castle built in the early 1800's as a fantastic residence but one which has now been allowed to fall into ruin since 1985 after a series of corporate owners failed to convert it into a luxury hotel complex.

The latitude allowed to the worker; the lavishness and ingenuity displayed in the stitches employed; in short, the vivid expression of the worker's individuality, form a great part of the success of needlework.
HDR from 1 shot. I took this photo this summer on the little island of Burano, near Venice, Italy. There, every house is paint with a flashy color. Only a HDR post processing allows to render the true look of the houses and their reflections on the canals. Looks better On Black

Niche-specific content is usually not readily available through regular generic search engines. One example is the academic and scholarly content. While running a search query about an academic topic through a generic search engine such as Google would probably render fairly decent results, it, however, usually takes digging into so much fluff before finally landing on relevant results. This is where having access to topic-specific search engines comes in handy. Such search engines do not only provide specific content tailored to the topic under study but their content is more likely to be reliable and authoritative. To this end, we have compiled this list of excellent academic search engines that teachers, student researchers and academics can use to quickly locate and access scholarly works and publications. We have only included what we believe are the most relevant and popular titles out there. If you have other suggestions to add to the list please share with us on our Facebook page. Enjoy
Recently, I've experienced some internet hate. I've had comments/messages from strangers saying I shouldn't be allowed to call my work photography, I'm a cheat for editing my photos and that I should just give up. It'd be so easy to let them get to me and just delete my account. But I love photography so I won't. I also love editing too, it allows me to play on my imagination and bring it to life! Yes, I use photoshop. But why should that mean I'm not a photographer? Editing requires a whole lot of patience and is a huge skill in itself. It's a hard skill too, something I'm still trying to learn and master! Most people who share their work online are proud of it, they share it because that's what makes them happy. I'm lucky enough to have a small support network of friends who encourage me to keep creating! The photography industry is big enough for everyone and we should all be supporting each other rather than bringing others down. So it'd be great if you all could stop and write a comment on someones work telling them what you like about it! 9 times out of 10 it'll make you feel better as well as the person who posted it. I took this image today, I expanded it, added in the sky, added in the brush strokes, added in the paint can, changed the colours around and uploaded it on here. And I'm proud of it. www.facebook.com/AdamBirdPhotography instagram.com/adambirdyy/

To celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope’s deployment into space, astronomers at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, Md., pointed Hubble’s eye at an especially photogenic pair of interacting galaxies called Arp 273. The larger of the spiral galaxies, known as UGC 1810, has a disk that is distorted into a rose-like shape by the gravitational tidal pull of the companion galaxy below it, known as UGC 1813. This image is a composite of Hubble Wide Field Camera 3 data taken on December 17, 2010, with three separate filters that allow a broad range of wavelengths covering the ultraviolet, blue, and red portions of the spectrum. This painting is a copy of Vigée-Lebrun's celebrated self-portrait, painted in 1790 for the self-portrait gallery at the Ufizzi, Florence. The original commission allowed Vigée-Lebrun to reassert her credo, 'I may be a woman, but first I am an artist', and she appears here in the act of painting the head of Marie-Antoinette, to whom she remained faithful despite the French Royal family's downfall in the Revolution. Painted from the political safety of Italy, this painting acts as a statement of intent, and Marie-Antoinette's inclusion communicates a clear message to Vigée-Lebrun's potential royal and aristocratic clients. However, the artist puts herself at the centre of the composition, which fundamentally remains an assertion of her profession: her face, still youthful and beautiful, confronts the viewer directly, as if studying them for their own portrait. This work allowed Steen to parody the contemporary social phenomenon of female lovesickness, an idea explored by Dutch medical circles at this time. Between 1654 and 1696, seventeen dissertations were written on the phenomenon at the universities of Leiden and Utrecht. The present painting appears to be particularly inspired by popular theatrical productions of the 1660s, in which medical buffoons treated melancholic women. The scene certainly has a farcical quality, with the doctor appearing to have just slung his black robe and hat over a theatrical costume and the merry characters in the doorway laughing and drinking. Kjell Stensson shows how to place a nylon stocking over a TV screen. He posed for this photo decades after 1962. Instant Color TV “Sweden's most famous April Fool's Day hoax occurred on April 1, 1962. At the time, SVT (Sveriges Television) was the only television channel in Sweden, and it broadcast in black and white. The station announced that their "technical expert," Kjell Stensson, was going to describe a process that would allow people to view color images on their existing black-and-white sets. The broadcast cut to Stensson sitting in front of a television set in the studio. He began to explain how the process worked. His discussion was highly technical, going into details about the prismatic nature of light and the phenomenon of "double slit interference." But at last he arrived at the main point. Researchers, he said, had recently discovered that a fine-meshed screen placed in front of a black-and-white television screen would cause the light to bend in such a way that it would appear as if the image was in color. Stensson told viewers they could experience the effect at home with the help of some simple, readily accessible materials. Nylon stockings, it turned out, were the perfect fabric to use as a fine-meshed screen. So all viewers had to do, Stensson said, was to cut open a pair of stockings and tape them over the screen of their television set. The image on the television should suddenly appear to be in color. Stensson cautioned that the viewer would have to be seated at the correct distance from the screen in order to get the full effect. Also, it might be necessary to "move your head very carefully" back and forth, in order to align the color spectrum. Thousands of viewers later admitted they had fallen for the hoax. Many Swedes today report that they remember their parents (their fathers in particular) rushing through the house trying to find nylon stockings to place over the TV set. SVT attempted its first color broadcast four years later, in 1966. Regular color broadcasts were begun in Sweden on April 1, 1970. The Instant Color TV hoax is ranked at #2 in the list of the Top 100 April Fool Hoaxes of All Time. (hoaxes.org/aprilfool/) hoaxes.org/archive/permalink/instant_color_tv
Edited: 2-13-15 I moved this old pic up today as it is the closest landscape shot that I got that symbolized Valentine's Day. Happy V's day everyone. This spot is the furthest point out west that one can drive before the road ends at Kaena Point. It is shaped like a heart which I find very interesting. This is a tide pool / blow hole that is about 25-30 feet deep and is pretty big in diameter. The swells was pretty good today to allow a good amount of water flowing into the tide pool.
