"Wirkliche Freiheit beginnt am Anfang des Lebens, nicht erst im Erwachsenenalter." - so Maria Montessori. Dieser Grundsatz ist eine der Hauptsäulen in ihrer Lehre, denn um sich individuell entwickeln zu können, muss man die freie Wahl haben darüber zu bestimmen, womit man sich beschäftigen möchte. Ohne diese Freiheit kann ein Kind nicht "sein eigener Baumeister" sein, wie sie das einst so schön formulierte. Unser Spielregal ist daher ständig in Änderung und beherbergt Spielsachen und andere Übungsmaterialien, die unsere Kleine interessieren könnte. Ich beobachte sie wochenlang um zu erfahren, welchen Interessen sie zurzeit nachgeht, welche Handbewegungen sie gerade erprobt oder welche Herausforderungen sie gerade sucht. Manchmal findet sie selbst eine Spielidee oder eine Beschäftigung und manchmal kommen mir Ideen um ihre Interessen zu unterstützen oder ich nehme die Praxisbücher als Anregung für passende Übungen, die ich ihr dann anbieten könnte. Diese kommen dann auf das Regal, andere, nicht mehr so interessante Spiel- oder Übungssachen kommen wieder weg. Einige befinden sich auf ihrem Schreibtisch oder auf dem RAST-Tischchen, ich versuche das Wohnzimmer so zu gestalten, dass sie in jeder Ecke was Spannendes entdecken kann. Ihre Spielsachen sind also so gut wie möglich ihren Interessen angepasst, wann und mit was genau (und wie) sie damit spielen möchte, bleibt ganz ihr überlassen. Wenn es um eine Übung geht, zeige ich ihr beim ersten mal vor, wie das geht. Wenn sie es kann und nachmacht, lasse ich ihr freie Wahl, was sie damit sonst noch anfangen kann. Zurzeit sind auf dem Regal und auf den Tischen (und auch sonst im Wohnzimmer) zum Beispiel diese Spiel- und Übungssachen anzufinden: Eine wasserdichte Box mit Utensilien zum Fensterputzen. Wie ich ihr die Übung zum Fensterputzen vorgezeigt habe, hat sie dies mit Begeisterung nachgemacht. In den letzten 4-5 Tagen hat sie die Box allerdings nicht angerührt. Eine Pappbox mit 3 kleinen Schubladen, Haarspangen und Halsketten (mit großen Perlen) und ein Spiegel. Die Box fesselt ihr Interesse seit Monaten. Die Schubladen ausziehen und dann ganz wieder zurückstecken findet sie am spannendsten. Ein Korb voller Schleichfiguren und in der Dose daneben die Memorykarten zum Zuordnen. Diese Übungsmaterialien haben bereits ihren Fixplatz auf dem Regal (sie hat sie aber meistens schon auf dem Tisch in der Sitzecke). Eines ihrer Lieblingsspiele. Ein Tablett mit einer Sortierübung wobei jeweils 2 gleiche Gegenstände gepaart werden. Sortiert werden 2 Bohnen, 2 Muschel, 2 Wäscheklammer und 2 Weinglasstöpsel aus Glas. Der Anziehrahmen. Die Foto-Kärtchen zum Thema Körperpflege. Wobei sie sich für dieses Gummiband auch sehr begeistern lässt. :) Ein Korb mit einem Nussknacker aus Holz, den ich euch bereits gezeigt habe. In letzter Zeit jedoch selten in die Hand genommen. Die selbstgemachten Reissäckchen und das Angel-Magnetspiel. Diese Spiele stehen schon seit Monaten ganz oben auf ihrer Hitliste. Ein Korb mit (2) Musikboxen. Deren Hebel zu drehen fasziniert sie jedes Mal aufs neue, diese zu drehen klappt jedoch noch immer nicht so richtig, dennoch nimmt sie die Boxen immer wieder unter die Lupe. Ihr etwas überstrapaziertes, dennoch heiß geliebtes Fädelspiel steht seitdem auf ihrem Schreibtisch am anderem Ende des Zimmers. Sowie ihre Aloe Vera, die sie immer wieder untersucht, abstaubt und begießt. Ein Watschelpelikan zum Schieben, sowie der noch immer geliebte Wheely Bug. Sie bewegt sich viel, auch in der Wohnung. Von Hüpfen, klettern und Turnübungen mal abgesehen sind diese zwei ihre Lieblinge. Seit einiger Zeit beobachte ich auch, dass die Käferbohnen (auch Feuerbohnen genannt) sie sehr faszinieren: ihr Klang wenn sie diese in die Schüssel fallen läst oder das Gefühl, mit beiden Händen darin herumzuwühlen. Also werden bald auch Bohnen-Übungen auf dem Regal landen. Ideen hätte ich schon, mal sehen, ob sie ihr auch gefallen. ;)

It's almost summer and the summer fruits have started to appear at our local farms and markets. Cherries are perhaps Otto's favourite!! But first, we have to remove the pit! Last weekend we went strawberry picking at a pick-your-own farm. It was so much fun but of course, we came home with a ton of strawberries. Otto has been using this strawberry slicer since he was around 14 months old. It is sharp so be careful. Ripe and small strawberries are the easiest for the young toddler to slice and make sure they keep their fingers out of the way!...

Transferring is a staple activity in the Montessori preschool/kindergarten classroom. Students develop their fine motor skills, eye hand coordination, focus and concentration while transferring small objects from one bowl or small container to another. These activities can start with simple transferring by hand and evolve to complex activities that involve several steps. These small actions form the basis of many of our daily chores. They will give your child the skills to do other practical life activities like cooking, cleaning, flower arranging, etc Mastering the art of pouring water enables children to get a drink for themselves or serve one to someone else. With every learned skill their independence and self confidence grows.
