22 Amazing alcohol ink projects. Who knew you could use alcohol inks in so many different ways and on so many surfaces. Let's start creating
It's been a long time since I've created an encaustic with alcohol inks, but I was inspired recently to take them out and play with them again. It is fascinating to watch the way the inks interact with each other. The alcohol gives so much movement, creating a look within your painting that you don't have much control over. You simply have to watch the way everything settles, and try to add or take away little bits at a time.

No time to dye eggs this year...I've been too busy working with color in the studio! Sharing a few images here from a new series that is beginning to take shape. I'm enjoying the excitement of these saturated and vibrant pigments suspended in layers of wax. Some of them remind me of the jewel-toned hard candy my grandmother used to make. In May, a few of these new paintings will make a cameo appearance at the San Francisco Art Market courtesy of the Gilman Contemporary. More will be on display at the Grover Thurston Gallery during my solo exhibition that opens July 5th, 2012. In my next post I will let you in on another project that was sparked by this body of work. Learn about the different drying tools to create beautiful alcohol ink artworks
Hello Friends, As you all know, I works quite a lot with alcohol inks and yupo. Till now, I used to source it from USA as it is very expensive here and most of the time not available. Recently, I found a new source in India for YUPO. NoteGrab - The paper is same but prices are great...:). It is available in different sizes and microns on Amazon.in. You can check the products HERE. Their Instagram handle is Notegrab.in. They were kind enough to send me a pad of these papers to try. Surface is same as yupo, the one I got was very thin but they have thicker papers too. As it is waterproof paper, thickness didn't make much of a difference. These are used for water colors too which i have to try yet. The weather is quite humid and alcohol inks don't like moisture so i had tough time maneuvering inks but enjoyed all the things I tried. Lately, I am liking the contrast in textures. I have created abstract land scape here with various Ranger and Piniata inks. Another abstract. I used tonic nuvo Gilding Flakes to add little glamour . Abstract landscape with some hand drawn trees...:P . Hills are painted with palette knife . I have used Art Impression stamps for cabin and trees. Love the cliff on this one. Last two are my favorite. Believe it or not it is just one ink - Ranger's Pitch Black . It is magical how one ink gives so many shades. Took long time to build all those layers of petals but love the end results. Once again, just black ink and some details with white sharpie. Please check their Amazon & Instagram for more info on this paper. I hope you enjoyed the post. Please mail me on [email protected] if you have any query regarding this paper or any other materials. Thank you for being here.G
Hello, and welcome to another one of my technique based posts for The Creative Team.As you may have gathered , I am truly hooked on using Gesso on everything I make at he moment ( check out our new challenge next month too!!) , and when I came across this video using Gesso AND Alcohol inks, I just had to show you! All the ingredients are at the bottom in appropriate links :)) I used one of Tim's new Embossing folders , and layered sticky back foil onto some card and ran it through my Vagabond. I painted the metal side with white gesso, just thickly enough to cover the metal colour, and let it dry. Then taking 3 or 4 or even 5 colours of alcohol inks, drip them gently onto the embossed gessoed card, and move them around with a cocktail stick, or similar until you get the desired effect. Remember alcohol inks dry quickly, so you need to work quite fast. Once you have achieved your desired effect, dry with a heat tool. You can leave it like this or add some Archival ink on top to add depth. You can then sand it back a little if you like, and add more ink on top too. I liked this technique as the Gesso will make the inks matte and not translucent if they were just on the metal alone(if that makes sense?) I do hope you like my little technique of the month, and don't forget to tune in on Wednesday for some exciting news! Have a creative day Jennie InLinkz.com

Tile completed during after school program. Coat with a thin layer of sealer for protection. I have seen many tile projects posted over the past couple month on art blogs and various crafts sites. I was impressed with the vivid colors and blending opportunities alcohol inks have to offer and had to try it. So much fun in the classroom and on my own! A painting I completed on an old transparency sheet using alcohol inks. Using a brush to control the inks I was able to achieve more details and was actually able to do a bit of color mixing! I plan on doing this technique with an art exportation day with High School students in a couple weeks.
