Highly sought after, Agave parryi var. truncata 'Huntington' (Artichoke Agave) is an evergreen, perennial succulent forming tight rosettes of thick, broad, short, pale blue-gray leaves with widely spaced small teeth and a wavy terminal spine. Dark reddish-brown on new leaves, the spines fade to gray on older leaves. Adding intriguing beauty, the leaves carry on their lower surfaces the distinct imprints of the thorny leaf margins of the previous outer leaf-bud. Mature plants (over 10 years) flower only once. They are topped with a magnificent flowering spike with unusual bi-colored inflorescences: tinged orange in bud, the flowers open yellow. The flowering rosette dies after flowering, but new rosettes formed by offsets will slowly root at the base of the mother rosette. Amazing when massed in a sunny garden or in large containers, ‘Huntington’ is a clone that has been grown at the Huntington Botanical Garden since 1951.
Surprisingly cold hardy, Agave ovatifolia (Whale's Tongue Agave) is an evergreen, perennial succulent forming a solitary rounded rosette of thick, broad, slightly cupped, gray to powdery-blue leaves. Adding interesting texture and interest year-round, the leaves are lined with small teeth along their margins and tipped with a long terminal spine. Mature plants (over 10 years) flower only once. They are topped with a magnificent flowering spike that can reach 14 ft. (4m), and bears dense clusters of yellow-green flowers. The flowering rosette dies after flowering. While this Agave doesn’t produce offsets, like many Agave species, it does reproduce via seed and bulbils after flowering.

This is a STARTER plant of a "Mayan Queen" Mangave plant. Mangaves are a great hybrid of Agaves and Manfreda plants. These are fantastic plants because they have very interesting forms and colors, and are FAST growing. The pictures are of a mature plant, to show you what it will look like. These starter plants range in size from about 3" wide, or so. They are FAST growing, so it may be a bit larger! This plant is currently in a 3.25" pot, but will be shipped bare root. I will be uploading pictures of the starter plants as soon as possible, but I have buyers who want these "new releases" NOW, so here they are. All plants are sent bare root, unless noted. If you need heat packs, we have them in our store, just add them to your order. The heat packs are $4 each. It is the buyer's responsibility to let us know they need a heat pack!
Have you heard about Mangave? We are thrilled to be bringing in some of these unique specimens that offer your landscape structural interest, and beauty.
