1-2-3 Come Do Some "Sense-sational" Writing Activities With Me I'm so excited about my latest creative writing packet (Seasons & Senses) that I just finished. Part of the "yippie yahoo" is that it's so versatile! PK kiddos on up through middle school will enjoy “Sav...
Holy Smokes y'all this week has been absolutely insane. After the tornadoes on Tuesday, the kids were a little hyped up, so I knew that I just had to roll with it. I threw all of my Earth Day plans out the window on Wednesday and just focused on the storms because that was literally all they were thinking/talking about. As they walked in the door on Wednesday they opened up their journals and started writing about what happened the day before. This little free-writing time truly opened my eyes to how they experienced the storms. As an adult, I was terrified, so I can only imagine how a little one must have felt. Thankfully none of my kiddos' houses/families were touched, so we were truly blessed! After journal writing we brainstormed SEVERAL adjectives to describe tornadoes. They thought of some really great ones! After we made our chart, they made their own little tornado scene with some adjectives. We also read some nonfiction books and watched a video. It really helped them understand how and why things happened the day before. It also reinforced that MOST tornadoes do not cause the devastation that our town suffered on that day. Most importantly all of those activities helped them have a little release from the anxiety that they were feeling! After that, we trekked on as normal! After all, we do have quite a bit of learning that needs to take place before we move on to 3rd grade... and I remind them of that pretty often these days ;) Here's a picture of another multiplication activity that we did to show what we have been learning. My kids are really getting the hang of it, and they are having a blast learning how to multiply! You can get this activity in my Multiplication Unit. Hope you all have a blessed and wonderful weekend! I can't wait to celebrate Easter with my family and church tomorrow! We are clinging tightly to the fact that our Savior is alive and with us all the time!
Let's talk about teaching adjectives. Specifically, how you can build interest and engagement by incorporating art and poetry into your lesson.

So last week we were learning about comparative and superlative adjectives and so naturally I was perusing Pinterest for cute Wintery ideas and found this...(which had no link back to blog or site, so if you know who this idea belongs to...please feel free to share so I can give credit!) And since it isn't St. Patrick's day, I had the idea to use the concept for snowmen! Thus, the Superlative Snowman was born!! Aren't they cute!!?? I turned it into a fabulous winter door display! We spent one day on comparative adjectives and one day on superlative adjectives. At the end of each day, we created a wordle of examples and those are what you see at the top of the door display. At the end of both days, we created the snowmen! I will be back tomorrow with some fun measurement ideas from today! It was awesome but I left the files to share at school so you'll just have to wait... =) And since my milk box joke was such a hit during Five for Friday, I thought I'd share another. BUT this time, the first person to give a correct answer will win an item of their choice from my blog! Please leave your email in the comment with your answer! Q: Why don't fish play basketball? Happy joking! And no GOOGLING! That's cheating!

When the word ambulance first came into use, it did not refer to a vehicle. The French adjective ambulant can be traced back to the Latin verb ambulare, meaning "to walk." This word was also later applied to the wagon used for transporting the wounded to the field hospital. Before long, the word ambulance came to be used for civilian hospitals set up during emergencies and also for the vehicles used to take the sick and injured to the hospital. Firstly, let’s get something straight: you don’t have to be an ‘artist’ to benefit from art therapy. Your artistic repertoire could consist of drawing stick figures or ugly blobs that resemble pieces of turd and it wouldn’t make a difference. What matters are the emotional and psychological impacts of what you draw, paint or create! If you regularly struggle with a lack of focus, restlessness, irritability, anxiety, stress, frustration, depression, anger or any emotions that you have difficulty processing, you absolutely need to consider giving art therapy a serious try. Like me, your art therapy practice could be as simple
