I have a new freebie set ready this week! This set has three puzzles all about bunnies! Not quite in time for Easter, but it's generic enough for any time of the year. One puzzle is a maze in which solvers have to help the mommy bunny gather up her baby bunnies from around the garden. Another puzzle teaches students about bunny related words while they find them in a word search. And the last puzzle challenges students to help a bunny across a river to find her pile of veggies! This puzzle is a new puzzle for me, and I'm excited about it! The solvers has to follow a pattern of shapes, hopping along each shape 'stepping stone', to get to the other side. My kids and I enjoyed doing these! (You can find more of these puzzles in my All About Shapes puzzle pack too!) All About Shapes is available in my TpT store for $4.00 and contains 20 puzzles for young solvers. These puzzles are geared towards kindergarteners and first graders, but pre-schoolers should be able to handle many of these puzzles with help from their parents. This pack contains 3 dot-to-dots, 3 river crossings, 3 mazes, 3 word searches, 4 coloring pages, 2 counting riddles, a sudoku, and a crossword! It's packed with fun ways to practice shape recognition and even learn some new shapes! You can download the Cub Corner or purchase All About Shapes at my TpT store! UPDATE: I no longer have the Cub Corner sets in my store. Just click on the picture to download. Also, the All About Shapes set has been retired, so you can download a free copy by clicking on that picture. Enjoy!

I LOVE saving figurative language until June - it's such a fun language unit ... and perfect for our "dreaming of summer brains". We finished up our EQAO testing mid week, and this onomatopoeia activity was the perfect break from testing. How fun is that??? Students chose two contrasting colours - one for the background and one for the word and border "bursting out of the page". They also needed newspaper (cut just a fraction smaller that the "bursting out of the page border" and glued the newspaper on top. They glued their word on top of that (we had brainstormed a lot of onomatopoeia words, but for some reason most of them chose SPLAT for their word). I also had them do a little shading under their letters for that little extra POP (see, I know some onomatopoeia words, too). ;) I had seen this awesome idea on Pinterest and followed it back to Artisan des Arts. Her examples are FANTASTIC!! We also wrote simile poems this week. I found a little template HERE for the students to use for their rough copies. When students were finished their templates, I had them write out their good copies, and illustrate a few lines with a small image. I hung these up, too ... LOVING our bulletin board switch up ... even this late in the school year!!! (I have two of these "smART class" bulletin boards side by side in the classroom. 15 more school days left ... I think I can ... I think I can ... Happy Friday!!!

LINK to the resource on a unit to express possession: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Possessive-pronouns-nouns-adjectives-form-questions-for-Elementary-ESL-4344443 It is available at my other store: https://www.bilingualmarketplace.com/products/possessive-pronouns-nouns-adjectives-form-questions-for-elementary-esl?variant=14410814914609 Watch the video of the resource: I always use flashcards to introduce the grammar point. I wish I had all these resources when I was teaching at a school 30 years ago. I had to draw mine or use magazine cutouts. Well, time flies and here we are. Use the big flashcards to place the on the board as mine. They will give the use of the possessive adjectives in context. Teacher: I run to my school. Underline and point out I and My. Continue with the rest of cards. I also made some cutouts to make sentences. Teacher: My favorite color is pink. Students: Our favorite color is brown. Play is also a teaching tool to review this grammar point giving student access to communication and creation. Game 1: Play sentence association. Display all the cards on a table and have the students place a sentence next to the picture card just as your board example. And do even more, give them a blank rectangle and students write a sentence using a possessive adjective. Game 2: Match the subject pronoun to the adjective pronouns. Game 3. Make possessive adjectives sentences. Cut all the words from each sentence and have the students build the sentence and match to the picture cards. I glued each word onto fun foam to make their studier. Game 4. Sort the sentences into Possessive adjectives, form, questions. Or sort them using envelopes. I placed a big clip on the back of each envelope for standing purpose. I also glued the super children characters on each envelope. Game 5. Feed the zebra. I cut all the words from each sentence of the sentence association game. I grabbed an empty soda plastic bottle and glued the zebra printable. I managed to cut the mouth out. Students feed the zebra by reading each word. I made a short video. On the notebook. It is always fun to cut and glue. There is a bundle for the Adjectives for teaching ESL Elementary students. Fairy Tale STEM Activity - Goldilocks and the Three Bears Try a hands-on STEM challenge with Goldilocks and the Three Bears! This STEM activity is designed for lower elementary kids. I am so excited to share some details about it! STEM tales introduce the youngest budding engineers to STEM, by taking a familiar story and using it to walk through the engineering design process. Do you love telling and re-telling stories with your kids? Do you ever change the ending to spice it up a bit? That's exactly what STEM tales is all about! Integrate Literacy and STEM with Fairy Tales The 8-page book provides an alternative ending to this story. Your students need to help make a bed for Goldilocks. Goldilocks is simply a printed out figure, which you can add weigh to with either small masses, pennies, or washers. Using whatever crafting materials you have handy (index cards and tape are really all that is needed, but feel free to use other supplies as well), create a new bed for Goldilocks. The Testing Phase of the STEM Challenge Is the bed large enough? Will it hold the weight of the figure? You will be surprised at the designs your students come up with! Designing and creating a bed for Goldilocks is a way for students to bring the fairy tale alive. After you have tested out the beds, it's time to introduce the bear family to the challenge (mama, papa, and baby, who is the same size as Goldilocks). You will add heavier weights to mama and papa bear, and then test the designs again. This is a great way to demonstrate why it's important to know your design criteria before starting a STEM challenge! Mama bear may fit on some and not others, or papa bear may fit but weigh too much and collapse the bed. Get the Goldilocks Fairy Tale STEM Challenge Here is the link to the full resource. In addition to all the steps above, the 8-page story book guides students through the engineering design process and also includes a self-evaluation check list. Or pin the idea for later: How to Conduct a STEM Tale Challenge To read more about how to conduct a STEM challenge, visit this post: To see all posts in this series, click here:
