As someone who has birthed 3 babies, I can personally attest to what a whirlwind of an experience it is. In a very short period of time, you are thrust into a somewhat traumatic yet equally breathtaking experience packed full of events that seem impossible to comprehend. Every moment is certainly worth remembering, but it never seems to work out that way when your brain is being clouded with newborn baby information and utter exhaustion. Because the first few days with baby are already testing you physically, mentally and emotionally, it can be helpful to have things written down to help you with preserving those early memories. As moms, we are instantly drawn into caring for this new little creature that relies on us for everything, but we are also usually the keeper of memories. “More often than not, mothers are the guardians of memory within the family. They’re the ones most inclined to organize photos, frame them, share them and make beautiful albums with them.” - Gratiane, mootsh.com So how do we balance the exhaustion and desire to remember it all? With a list! We’ve put together a list of 30 must-take newborn baby photos in those early days (before/at the hospital and at home). Follow the list and you’ll definitely capture the sweet moments that encapsulate those first few days of newborn bliss – and you won’t even have to think about it! [Scroll to the end to download the list so you can take it with you to hospital and post it up on the fridge for easy reference] DIY Newborn Hospital Photo Ideas (and some for before you go) Before you head to the hospital, take a few photos of the calm before the storm. The completed nursery and your prepped hospital bag are good starters. Our Minimalist Pregnancy Milestone Cards are great way to help you capture these shots! @alanacvalentine Enlist a friend or your birthing partner to take a specific list of shots during labor. This is a free pattern on Heart Hook Home, this is the printable version. See link for free version. Materials: Red Heart Hygge yarn recommended (see notes below for yarn substitutions) -approx. 400 yards for 6/9 M -approx. 500 yards for 12/18 M -approx. 565 yards for 2/3T -approx. 920 yards for 4/5T -approx. 1050 yards for 6/8 -approx. 1150 yards for 8/10 -approx. 1400 yards for 12/14 Crochet hook in size 7mm (pointier the better) Gauge: 10 sts x 14.5 rows = 4” square Pattern Notes: Pattern written in US terms. This pattern uses front post/back post crochet stitches. See a written and video tutorial for this stitch here: http://hearthookhome.com/crochet-front-post-and-back-post... Waistcoat stitch (wc) Similar to the single crochet, except you go into the post of the stitch from the previous row instead of the top of the stitch. Make sure you stay LOOSE as you work!! It makes going into the stitch easier the following row. Measure periodically to make sure you’re on track. Watch the Waistcoat Stitch tutorial before you start: http://hearthookhome.com/waistcoat-crochet-stitch/ Place first sc of the row in the very first st. Place first wc st in very next post. End row with sc in last st, skipping last post. (for clarification, see photos of first stitch and last stitch placement) YARN SUBSTITUTIONS This pattern calls for Red Heart Hygge yarn, a size 5/Bulky weight yarn. Because this yarn is so much softer than a traditional bulky weight yarn, I find that it is very pliable and amazingly comfortable to wear. If you use a different bulky weight yarn, that WILL work, but you may find the finished product to be a bit stiff. This stiffness will get better with laundering the hoodie, or you could opt to use a worsted weight yarn instead. Note that the gauge is the same whether you are using worsted weight OR the Hygge (bulky weight/size 5) yarn. That being said, if worsted weight is used in substitution for the Hygge/bulky weight, you may need a bit more of it.
