Old abandoned houses tell a story. Even if the story is not documented in history, each abandoned home gives us a glimpse into a life once lived.
Misty hills. Lonely forest roads. Plenty of vines, moss, and unkempt trees. And the cherry on top—a gorgeous abandoned building that radiates eeriness and grandeur in equal measure. That’s our dream home right there. Especially if the place looks haunted.

When we call a place home, instead of a house, we’re ascribing a sort of positive emotion to it. But on the flip side, a windowless, empty house can evoke melancholy, sad, and even spooky emotions as our brains wonder why the people left in the first place. Mortgage costs are boring, it must be ghosts.

We can think that we're leaving our mark on the Earth as much as we want, but it's only temporary. With time, Mother Nature reclaims its lost territories and there's not much we can do about it. Bored Panda has compiled a list of photos of abandoned places, cars and even entire towns that are losing their battles against disappearing because of the force of nature, and you don't have to be an urban explorer to be moved by them. "By the sweat of your brow, you will eat your food until you return to the ground since from it, you were taken; for dust, you are and to dust, you will return."

Sacred, it is this place at the end of a path which not long ago I have walked: forested, the road rises from the foot of a small Italian city and ends at the top of a hill, where you will find an imposing monastery rich in art and history, engulfed by an oak forest, a place hard to find for vandals. Perhaps that's why the interior of the church has been preserved so well. In the fifteenth century, the Franciscans raised the monastery consisting of the church and the cloister and more recently, in the 60s, the college with the gymnasium, chapel, typography, and garage was erected.

This old mill building is in the middle of nowhere beside a river. I need to do some homework to find out more about its history, but my guess is that it used to be a flax mill.
