I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to present verse 2 of I Know That My Savior Loves Me. For verse 1, I did the whole When, Where, How, Why... format. You can see my whole lesson HERE. I do have a word document for the first & second verse created, but it just didn't feel right this time and I really wanted to use pictures instead of words since I had separate Jr./Sr. primaries now. So this is what I came up with this for Junior Primary: Now I am Here in a Beautiful Place Last verse we talked about Jesus and how he visited the Nephites "a long time ago" NOW we are talking about US in verse 2. We are still here on Earth in a beautiful place. WHAT are we doing here? Learning the teachings of Jesus. Sing together a couple times. Did Heavenly Father send us to Earth and say, "good luck, see ya later?" Or did he send us with people that loves us? RIGHT! He sent us to Earth with Parents & Teachers who would help guide us. Parents and Teachers will help guide the way, Lighting our path ev'ry day. See this path? It's not dark. We are not alone. It is lit up, we know where to go. -Sing a couple times, and then sing from beginning. Repetition is KEY! Now, we talked about this in verse 1- WHY did Jesus bring the children around him? WHY did he talk to them, bless them, pray for them? Because He loved them. And he loves us now. We weren't there back then, but we can still feel His love for us NOW as we feel the Spirit. Wrapped in the arm of my Saviors love I feel His gentle touch. Show the picture. See how His arm is around the boy? You can tell he loves him. He loves us too! Sing together a couple times and then sing from the beginning. Alright, now the next line is our part- our job while we are here on Earth. Listen carefully: Living each day I will follow His way, Show CTR sign- What does this mean? what are some things we can do everyday to follow His way and choose the right? pray. read scriptures. go to church. be kind to siblings. help in family. home to my Father above. Where is our home? Where do you live? at my house, in a hotel, at my grandma's. (a few answers) Yes, that's right, that is our home NOW. But do you know where our REAL home is? Heaven!! Our actions everyday will help us to feel our Savior's love and to make it back to Heaven. That's the whole reason we're here! Sing a few times and then from the beginning. This all took about 20 minutes, so it was perfect timing. If you have more time, you can continue and sing the Chorus with the special ending a few times too. We will do that next week. Next week I will be reviewing with the UNO game!! For Senior Primary: I gave them a piece of paper and had them draw pictures for each of those 4 parts. As they drew, we sang. It worked out really for our small group- we only had 6 kids, so we talked as they drew and colored their pictures. Then we played the UNO game for the last 5 minutes. We could've played even longer, it was fun! UNO Game lesson HERE! Here are the print outs I used for this lesson: images from Susan Fitch Designs
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man DOWNLOAD 4X6 HERE OR A SHEET OF 4 This picture can be found in Primary 2, picture 10 (2-10) or you can download it HERE. I love how this picture can put the real thing into something tangible to the kids that Jesus was more like them then they may think. With this picture you can play a "matching game" by printing out 2. In one you could cut out the items that the questions below are highlighting and as you explain what it may have been used for you could have a child "I Spy" to the one up on the board (not cut). In the lesson that corresponds with the picture. It suggests asking questions about what they see in the picture. • Where do you think the family slept? (Point out the mat the woman is putting away and the closet behind her that seems to hold other rolled mats. Explain that the roofs of the houses were flat, and steps on the outside of each house led up to the roof. Perhaps the children sometimes slept on the roof.) • Where did the baby in this home sleep? (Point out the cradle. Explain that Joseph was a carpenter and might have made a cradle like this one for the baby Jesus.) • What do you think the big jars were used for? (Some held water. All the water the family used was carried from the well in the village because there was no running water in the homes. A well is a deep hole in the ground with clean water in it.) • What is the woman who is sitting on the floor doing? (Grinding grain to make into bread.) • Since there was no electricity, how could they light this home? (They used oil lamps. Point out the lamp on the stool behind the woman grinding grain. Perhaps some of the jars held oil for the lamps.) I love this picture of the boy Jesus teaching in the temple. You can download it HERE. As you show this picture, you can point out that Jesus was teaching men who were much older than He was. Jesus knew that He was to do Heavenly Father's work at a very young age. This picture is in Primary 2. (2-11) or you can download it HERE During His childhood, Jesus was taught the scriptures, just like we are in our homes. He may have helped Joseph with his carpentry. He may have eaten foods that you eat too. Maybe not pizza or chicken nuggets but bread, fish, lamb (sheep), honey, grapes, figs(fruit), dates(fruit), and milk. Please take a minute to share a comment, I love reading them! They keep making me want to give FREEBIES! It's always wonderful to know that what you are putting up and writing about is worthwhile and people enjoy them. Questions? Trouble downloading? Email me at [email protected]

I love the ideas for teaching "If the Savior Stood Beside Me" that were posted on Sugardoodle , so I made my own flipchart with squares I can cut out and put back to back with the question marks for teaching as described, but can also be used just as a flipchart for performing. I like to include pictures for the little ones who can't read. You will need to print some of the pages two or three times as needed for the verses. I found most of the pictures as free downloads from Susan Fitch Designs and modified a couple of them to fit the song. Thanks to these people sharing, I too wanted to share. You can find my flipchart here: If the Savior Stood Beside Me

For the month of May the primary counselor over music asked me to teach Teach Me to Walk in the Light (Children's Songbook p. 177) as one of the songs we will be singing for our Sacrament Meeting Presentation. I LOVE this song and I am thrilled to be teaching it! I have made the following into a flip chart: I will print it in storybook form so two pages will show at a time. I’ll laminate the pages and then bind it all together on the left side. I think this is a familiar song to the children and their teachers, so it’s just a matter of polishing it a bit through repetition. I will explain how the children sing the first verse, the teachers sing the second verse, and everyone sings the third verse together. Then I’ll use the flip chart I made to explain the words of the song. Then we will sing it all the way through once. Since this Sunday is Mother's Day, we will then review the song by playing Queen for a Day. (See instructions below.) I will alternate the verses, having a child choose from my bag for the first verse, then only the children will sing. I’ll ask a teacher to choose something from the bag on the second verse, and then only teachers will sing. For the last verse I will have either a child or teacher choose from the bag, and everyone will sing it together. There will be 15 items in the bag, so each verse will be sung three times during the game. Queen for a Day Preparation Gather the items listed and put them in a bag. (I use a big cloth laundry bag with a drawstring that my grandmother made for me when I was young. It’s what I keep all my Singing Time surprises in, so when they see me carrying it into Sacrament Meeting the kids get really excited!) Ask a mom in your ward to be “Queen for a Day”. I am going to ask the Primary President to be our queen. You could also ask an elderly woman, but make sure she has a sense of humor! Find a tiara for your queen. I found one at my local dollar store. You might also borrow one from a teen in your ward. In the Primary room, decorate a chair like a throne. (I’ll throw a large pink tablecloth over the chair and attach a large pink bow around the back with a big bow. Maybe I’ll add some silk flowers. How to Play Explain to the children how our moms do so many things for us every day, and on Mother’s Day, she deserves to be a Queen for a Day! Introduce the mom as the primary’s Queen for a Day, and thank her for participating. Escort her to the specially decorated “throne” and place a tiara on her head. Tell the children that you have brought your mystery bag, and inside there are items that show all the ways our moms care for us. As we pull out each item we will honor our queen by placing it on her. Call a child or teacher up to the front to choose an item from the bag. Don’t let them peek; just allow them to choose the first thing they feel. Have the child/teacher place the item on the “queen” and explain how the item relates to moms, then sing accordingly: • FRYING PAN-Moms cook and bake for us: sing like bacon- (sing staccato short and choppy, bob up and down on chairs as if they are a hot pan. • BATH TOWEL-Mom’s do our laundry: do the twist while singing • KEYS- Mom drives us wherever we need to go. Sometimes mom is in a hurry: Sing fast while driving • BOOK-Mom reads us stories: sing through hand puppet • JUMP ROPE- Moms tries to keep in shape: jogging or jumping invisible rope while singing • POM-POMS- Mom goes to our games and cheers for us: clap hands to the beat • COWBOY BOOT – Mom likes horses/helps on the farm: sing like a cowgirl/cowboy • HEART PILLOW- Mom prays for us: sing reverently and softly with eyes closed • SONG BOOK: Some moms play the piano, some don’t: sing without the piano • BABY DOLL: Mom loves her children: sing like a baby • CLOCK or WRISTWATCH- Mom stays up all night with sick children: Sing without blinking • POWER DRILL-Mom helps solve problems and she can fix anything: pat head and rub tummy • IPOD-Mom likes good music: sing with ears covered like headphones • HANDKERCHIEF – Sometimes moms cry: cry sing • SWIMMING GOGGLES- Mom takes us swimming: sing with nose plugged Finish by thanking the “queen” for being a good sport, and remind the children to be extra good when they get home by being kind to their siblings, picking up after themselves, and helping dad do all the things mom would normally do, so she can truly be Queen for a Day. Have fun!
I have always loved President Nelson. Happy to have him as our new prophet. I know many many of you have my Follow The Prophet kits that include President Monson. I love him dearly too. But with his recent 'graduation' from this life, I've done an illustration of our new prophet to put in that kit. I will add the file to my Etsy shop for anyone who buys the kit new, but for those of you who have the kit already - you can download President Nelson here for free. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD
