Much of the fascination and puzzlement caused by ontological arguments may be to do with the fact that they arrive at their conclusion, which consists in nothing less than the existence of God, in an astonishingly simple way. The Anselmian version, as a case in point, can be explained to lay persons in a few minutes. How can it be that such an innocent-looking argument establishes such a weighty conclusion? This perplexity has provoked analytically minded philosophers to try to find some kind of formal or informal fallacy in its structure ever since Anselm stated it for the first time. In this book, I show that this method of discussing ontological arguments is incomplete. The key to understanding ontological arguments does not lie in the arguments themselves, but in their philosophical background. To substantiate this claim, I examine two different ontological arguments, that of Saint Anselm of Canterbury and the modal ontological argument proposed by Alvin Plantinga. Then, I explore Kant's refutation of ontological arguments in his Critique of Pure Reason, and I argue that Kant's refutation does not proceed by logical analysis, but rather by undermining the ontological arguments' epistemological underpinnings. Recently released findings of the Pew Research Center's 2014 "Religious Landscape Study" find absolute belief in God is fading.
The design argument is one of the widely used arguments in apologetics to make a cumulative case for the existence of God. It is basically about inferring a designer from the design that we see around. When we see a car or a motorbike or a house, the first thing we know is that there’s

Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion by David Hume paperback in used condition, has some underlining and writing in margins "In the posthumously published Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, the Enlightenment philosopher David Hume attacked many of the traditional arguments for the existence of God, expressing the belief that religion is founded on ignorance and irrational fears. Though calm and courteous in tone - at times even tactfully ambiguous - the conversations between Hume's vividly realized fictional figures form perhaps the most searching case ever mounted against orthodox Christian theological thinking and the 'deism' of the time, which pointed to the wonders of creation as conclusive evidence of God's Design. Hume's characters debate these issues with extraordinary passion, lucidity and humor, in one of the most compelling philosophical works ever written." In re-posted podcast, J. Warner Wallace examines the evidence for design (teleology) in biological organisms. Is there credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God? Retracing his own spiritual journey from atheism to faith, Lee Strobel, former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, cross-examines a dozen experts with doctorates from schools like Cambridge, Princeton, and Brandeis who are recognised authorities in their own fields. Strobel challenges them with questions like, How reliable is the New Testament? Does evidence for Jesus exist outside the Bible? Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual event? Winner of the Gold Medallion Book Award and twice nominated for the Christian Book of the Year Award, Strobel's tough, point-blank questions read like a captivating, fast-paced novel. But it s not fiction. It's a riveting quest for the truth about history s most compelling figure. The new edition includes scores of revisions and additions, including updated material on archaeological and manuscript discoveries, fresh recommendations for further study, and an interview with the author that tells dramatic stories about the book's impact, provides behind-the-scenes information, and responds to critiques of the book by skeptics. As The Case for Christ and its ancillary resources approach 10 million copies in print, this updated edition will prove even more valuable to contemporary readers.
