Resources are based around these standards: 3-LS1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes 3-LS1-1. Develop models to describe that organisms have unique and diverse life cycles but all have in common birth, growth, reproduction, and death. 3-LS3 Heredity: Inheritance and Variation of Traits 3-LS3-1. Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variation of these traits exists in a group of similar organisms. 3-LS3-2. Use evidence to support the explanation that traits can be influenced by the environment. 3-LS2 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics 3-LS2-1. Construct an argument that some animals form groups that help members survive. 3-LS4 Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity 3-LS4-1. Analyze and interpret data from fossils to provide evidence of the organisms and the environments in which they lived long ago. 3-LS4-2. Use evidence to construct an explanation for how the variations in characteristics among individuals of the same species may provide advantages in surviving, finding mates, and reproducing. 3-LS4-3. Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. 3-LS4-4. Make a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when the environment changes and the types of plants and animals that live there may change.* WHAT DO YOU GET!?!? -Student examples -I can posters for each NGSS -RESOURCE WEBSITES FOR TEACHERS & STUDENTS (You might have to copy and paste the link into the search engine) -Activity Ideas Resources... -Label the parts of plant WS (B&W/COLOR) -Describe the functions of a plant WS- Answer key -Parts of a Plant Assessment -Life Cycle Vocabulary WS -Life Cycle Activity- Video Observation -Video Observation WS -Frog Life Cycle WS (B&W/COLOR) -Butterfly Life Cycle WS (B&W/COLOR) - Answer Key -I Can... Here are 68 epic science experiments for any 3rd-grade class.
Here is an introductory lesson to what Science is. Many young students may not have a good grasp of just what science is so this worksheet give them the idea that there are really 3 areas of Science: Life, Earth and Physical Science. They are given the words that will be used in sentences on the next page. This worksheet would work for 2nd and 3rd graders who can read well. When this worksheet is done, you could have them cut and paste pictures from magazines into the 3 areas described as a collage or have a discussion on what areas of science different objects in the room would go into. Even though planets technically go with physical science, I put them in with the earth science group as that would make more sense to them at this point. I did not give them the names Life Science, Earth Science and Physical Science but you could if you want to.
