I found this Math Reference Sheet many years ago on Ms. Sanchez's class website. Her download is still available. I printed out 25 colored copies and mounted on card stock. On the backside I made a sheet of cut and pasted resources that fit my students' needs like measurement charts, number words, etc. I then laminated the cards. They held up for four years and it is now time to remake them. If this is too old for your class, there are a variety of sheets available on TPT for free that might fit your needs. Link Here are my math tool kits that I will have the children store on their desks. It will become the Math/Science tool kit. I need to come up with a clever name for them. We do not use Everyday Math anymore and will be adopting Go Math. While looking for her website, I stumbled across her Science Sheet that I will also be making for my students. Link

Our 10 year old was given the opportunity to do sixth grade math in fifth grade. We were psyched that he was going to be challenged more in his favorite subject. The program is pretty much self-taught and while it's gone well, there has been one hiccup ... fractions. My son normally does mental math at the speed of light, but fractions ssssslllllllllloooooowwwww him way down and that's pretty frustrating for him. As he struggled through his homework, I agonized over a way to help him. While it's true that games and activities are always my first choice, I knew he was going to need some kind of cheat sheet to refer to as he worked through page after page in his workbook. Hence, this printable was born. Seeing as though my fraction activities continue to be some of my most popular, I'm guessing you followers (and the kids you work love and teach) will find this useful. Print the PDF free from Google Drive here. Teachers - if you're prompted to request permission to access the document, use a PERSONAL email address. Most schools block emails from outside their domain, prohibiting me from granting you access.

This past week, we started working on multi-step word problems using the 4 operations. My students always have a hard time with this concept because they get overwhelmed having to incorporate and figure out which of the 4 operations they need to solve for as well as having to perform two different operations in one problem. Too often I see them just guessing rather than really thinking each problem through about what is actually happening in the problem. This week, we did some math skits. The students were broken up into different groups and were assigned to either addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. In these groups, students were to discuss what it means to add, subtract, multiply or divide and come up with example situations. They were then to choose an example which clearly shows what the operation means (what we are doing) and perform it for the class. Here is a group of students planning out their skit. After each performance, the audience was to decide which operation they were performing and they had to explain how they knew. As a class, we then went and wrote a description of what each operation means and then listed some key words to look out for in our word problems. Another group actually practicing Our multiplication group performing.. Can you guess which operation this group was acting out? Have a great week!

Do you need an organized plan for your Math activities? There was a time when I just sent students to math centers after they completed the assigned math application for the day's lesson. I spent so much time replacing center materials, but thought there had to be a better way! I had other resources that I rarely used and then one day I read the book Math Work Stations by Debbie Miller. It changed the way I thought about this time! Now "centers" is just one activity in my daily Math Work Stations. I wanted an organized plan to ensure I worked with each student during the week, so I included a teacher rotation. Fluency is an important focus at our school, so I wanted my kiddos to work in their fluency folders weekly as well. Counting to 120 is a skill reported on our first report card, so I have a container of baggies with various seasonal erasers in them. The number in the bags range from 50 to 150. I bought my first assortment from Amazon, but then they started popping up in the dollar spot at Target. Most of them come in groups of 60, so I usually pick up two bags. These are my first 5 rotations to start the year. I will eventually change out counting bags for iPads or Partner Games as they year goes on. These stations require hardly any of my time, so instead, I get to spend it on planning my core content. I still have centers, but I don't have to change them near as often (usually monthly or just when the unit changes). Yippie!!! Click on Weekly Math Rotations Chart if you would like your own copy, which is fully editable. You can change the group names, the student names in each group and the name of the daily activities. There is also a 4-day rotation chart included in the download. Pick which is best for you. If you like this Weekly Math Rotation chart, please leave your review on TPT. Thank you!
