I would enjoy reading the journey the artist took into surrealism, to come up with these concepts, as much as I love the finish animal pieces. Dutch artist Redmer Hoekstra, is one of those illustrators that exercise the brain as well as the eyes, when you look at his works. We have been following this talented artist for years, here at DesignStack. Every time we go to his site; he does not disappoint, with amazing and extravagant drawings. As well as spending time to produce the piece of art, he has to come up with a concept that makes sense to him and tells a story. That is why his drawings can take between 32 to 40 hours to complete. This is a print of an original work in pencil on paper. I obsess about mollusks and really enjoy the fluidity of snails, and i believe that with their powers (and mucus) combined, they could make a mighty fine tower. My digital prints are printed on heavy stock in a non-glossy format. They will be shipped in a poly-sleeve (not archival, but made of recycled materials) with backboard for support.

Northern Totems This print is available with an outside dimension of 8” x 10” (image approximately 5"x7"), easy to frame in a standard size frame of your choosing. I began creating art by doing pen and ink drawings. I worked exclusively in black and white for many years. Many of my pieces I consider “collages” as they combine elements at different sizes to form a composition that pleases my eye. This piece, titled “Northern Totems” is dedicated to the animals of the far north. The focal point is the polar bear, surrounded by a caribou, snowy owl, walrus, wolf and snowshoe hare. I always find it a little daunting working on white animals with black ink, but it all ends up being about light and shadow. It is my hope that my drawings can bring you positive inspiration, clarity and a personal connection to the feelings behind them; and when they are hanging on your wall, remind you to feel those qualities within yourself and carry them with you throughout your day. This image is professionally printed from an original pen and ink drawing created by myself, Stefanie Clark. I mount each print with a black core matte and illustration board backer. After titling and signing each print, I affix a label on the back with a short bio. The print is sealed in a poly bag and ships in a rigid mailing envelope.
