Contractions are great for writing words shorter to save some time. But there is some confusion when students shorten the words. Contract means to make smaller. Students contract two words into one small word. This is what students need to remember about contractions: The first words always stays the same (except for the word; will not, won't). The apostrophe goes where the letters come out. I have a Free Contractions Bingo game to practice reading and writing contractions. This 2-Player game has students matching the two words that make a contraction to the contraction word on their bingo board. The first player to make a bingo is the winner! All you need to play are the Bingo Boards and Contraction Cards. Click the picture for your free download! Place the Contractions Bingo Game in you center rotations or use during small group time. Play after teaching or reviewing contractions. Feel free to send home for homework to play with a family member. Place the Contraction Cards and some writing paper at a Writing Center. Students use the cards to write sentences using the contraction word. Check students for understanding. It helps to remember the first word stays the same and the apostrophe replaces the letters that come out. The only time this rule doesn't apply is for the contraction word, will not - won't. Try this pack of Contraction Task Cards. It includes 3 centers. The first center has 40 task cards that students choose from multiple choice answers to find the correct contraction. The second center has 36 task cards. Each task card has a contraction. The students write the two words that make up the contraction. The third center has 36 task cards. Each task card the two words that make up the contraction. Students write the contraction that make up the the two words. This pack will keep your students sharp on reading and writing contractions all year long. Here are some resources you may need when teaching contractions. Aloha friends! Summer is flying by for me. I cannot believe it is already July!! I had a list a mile long of things I needed to do and I have barely made a dent. However, I have been enjoying myself a great deal, swimming, working out, catching up with friends and binge watching lots of Netflix!! One thing that I can cross off my list is finishing up my Grammar Centers for the Reading Wonders series. Actually all of my Wonders products are complete now!!! Each of these units covers the grammar skills that are covered in the Wonders units. They are great for Daily 5 word work rotations or small group activities. Each unit comes with activities that cover a skill and a practice sheet for reinforcement. Much more engaging than a workbook! Each also has a color and black and white version to make printing easier and more affordable. I also have Morning Work for each unit. These include practice for grammar, spelling and vocabulary for each unit. The skills begin simple and spiral through the year. My kids did so well with this format this year! Finally, I have Spelling Lists for each of the units that include printable lists for On-Level, Above Level and Approaching, vocabulary words and definitions, high-frequency words and sentences for spelling dictation. Spelling Unit 1 is free in my TpT shop to give you an idea of what's included in the other packs. It does not include everything that I added to the other units. I guess I should add that to my list ;) Hope your summer is progressing well and that these resources will come in handy down the line.
Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing prefixes and suffixes. It helps students see base words and adding prefixes/suffixes to them. The pug puppy helps my students see the separation of the base words with their prefix/suffix and they have so much fun with it! It will be approximately 32 x 24 inches, and will be a copy of my original. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)

Generalizations Anchor Chart! After using the anchor chart to teach students about generalizations (and warning them of faulty generalizations), students complete the FREE generalizations worksheet!
Aloha Friends! I am enjoying my 3 day weekend and loving an extra day to catch up and lounge around. I am having a BBQ with some friends this evening to celebrate my birthday (a little late) and to enjoy our beautiful weather that we have been having!! I went for a long walk this morning with my hubby and my new phone that I got for my birthday :) I had intended on getting my very first iPhone. Everyone loves their iPhones. I ended up getting the Galaxy S5! I love the camera and it has this fun little feature to take a selfie and a picture at the same time! It also has a pedometer that automatically counts my steps wherever I go. I think it's like a FitBit. It's also water resistant which is great since I plan to walk/jog with it and we are at the beach a lot. It is amazing what phones can do these days. It's like carrying around a mini computer in your pocket. Which brings me to the topic of this post! Phones? Nope! Our class started learning about the Past, Present and Future this week. We talked about how things change over time. (Just like our phones) We started the week with our Birthday Timeline. We also learned about inflectional endings -ed/ing in our reading series and how a verb can change to show past, or present. Click on the picture to grab this freebie in Google Docs. We started our interactive notebooks and had a lesson on what history means. We will continue with learning about modern times and the future. We are also going to be creating our own timelines. I have shared before how I have students make Personal Timelines. This is a template from Really Good Stuff that I had used previously. This year I made a template for my students to use. I am sending home a letter to parents asking them to help their child write about what they could do at each stage of their life. I am also asking them to bring in pictures at each age of their lives (if they have them). Students will glue in their pictures and write about each year. If they don't have pictures they will just draw themselves. I plan to also have them write the year at the top of each picture. I am going to hang them up in our classroom, but they can also place them right into their notebooks. These always turn out really cute! I can't wait to share our finished products. If you are interested in checking out my Timeline Unit it is available in my TpT store. Thanks so much for popping in. I am off to prepare for my future events. Enjoy your long weekend!!
