January 15, 2022Hear the word Surrealism and you’ll almost certainly picture iconic paintings by René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and their cohort. But Surrealism also had a life in three dimensions, as in Dalí’s sofa based on Mae West’s lips and phone with a lobster shell for a receiver. (His client for those objects was the […]
August 29, 2016Michael Reynolds is a true original. At a time when every teenage YouTube phenom is described as a “visionary” or an “icon,” he is one of the few people who can legitimately make a claim to those lofty designations. Trying to put a label on his wide-ranging talents and body of work is […]
Step into the realm of innovative design with the Good Vibrations storage unit designed by Ferruccio Laviani—a piece that transcends traditional boundaries and captures the essence of creativity with a touch of wit. In May 2021, this exceptional furniture joined the prestigious permanent collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris, marking its significance in the world of contemporary design. The Good Vibrations storage unit is a testament to a new design philosophy, seamlessly blending styles and cultures with a playful spirit. Fratelli Boffi's expertly crafted piece introduces a 'disorienting' design, as if it has been dynamically 'deformed' by a powerful jolt or swaying movements. It becomes a visual symphony of echoes from distant places and subtle oriental influences, all skillfully incorporated into a modern masterpiece. While it may seem to break away from past aesthetics, the Good Vibrations unit actually draws inspiration from ancient craftsmanship, showcasing mastery in carving and fine woodwork. This extraordinary piece challenges classical stylistic principles—purity, cleanness, and symmetry—eliciting a delightful sense of deja-vu while maintaining undeniable artisanship. Immerse yourself in the avant-garde allure of the Good Vibrations storage unit, where tradition meets innovation, and every curve tells a story of fearless design exploration. Elevate your space with this piece that not only questions the norm but also invites you to rediscover the timeless beauty of craftsmanship.

[New Orleans, LA ::: b. 1952 - Queens, NY] BIO : TONY DAGRADI is an internationally recognized jazz performer, artist, composer, author and educator. For over three decades he has made his home in New Orleans, performing on tenor and soprano saxophone with many of the Crescent City's most celebrated artists. Since 2015, Tony has been exploring the visual possibilities of altered books. Choosing vintage and antiquarian texts, he carefully cuts through one page at a time to reveal existing images in a three dimensional collage or sculpture. The results allow the contents and imagery of long outdated material to be viewed in a manner that is both exciting and thought provoking. ARTIST STATEMENT: As I begin a piece, I examine each book to get a feel for the content and, to a lesser degree, the placement of that content. Moving forward, I have several stategies which will allow me to expose images, ultimately bringing them together in a unifified composition. In my first method of choice, I seal the edges of the book and begin cutting page by page, removing everything but the images that appeal to me. This can be very exciting as I never know what will appear next or how it will compliment the piece as a whole. In my mind, it is very similar to improvising with a jazz ensemble. Inevitably, during every performance each player interjects his or her own commentary. No two performances are ever the same and everyone must react to what is happening at the moment. Similary, as I cut through the pages of a book, I must react to whatever appears, choosing to keep or reject what presents itself. If continued to it's logical conclusion, all of the material is exactly where it has always been, but now can be viewed in a totally different way. Another approach I take is selecting images from a book and placing them as I please to more finely control the composition. From a viewer's point of view, the end result is almost identical to that of the pure excavation process. Most of the pieces in my "Jazz" series and "Fantasy" series are assembled in this manner. When a piece is completed, I coat exposed surface with an acrylic lacquer. This treatment adds a certain rigidity to the paper sculpture and serves to protect it from air and dust.

Material: HD fine art print on Dibond Series: Anatomia Parvus Prints Edition of 50 As a self-taught artist with a medical background in surgery, bio-engineering and design, he stretches the limits of technical as well as aesthetic potential, applying the precision of a surgeon to fine art. For only with an open mind, free of preconceptions, can one accomplish what initially seemed impossible, and thereby elevate something relatively inconspicuous - or disconcerting even - to the level of art. He takes his role seriously – that one of an artist who wishes to trigger the awakening of the consciousness. Surgery has taught him persistence, precision, anatomy, the beauty of perfection and the delicacy of life. Science has taught him to look deeper, beyond, to look for serendipity and try to understand what the essential elements of life are. He tries to combine this knowledge and integrate it into his art. One of the returning subjects in Samuel Dejong’s oeuvre are the small creatures that can at times make us wonder about the beauty of nature, while they can at other moments awaken aversion and even fear in many of us. With his art, Samuel Dejong challenges us to witness the beauty of the foundation of our ecosystem: insects. No other creatures are as elegant and fragile yet so strong and indestructible. They embody pure aesthetics, with their utmost detailed perfection. Many artists have used them to create beautiful works of art. Samuel Dejong wants to add an extra element to insects in art: life and motion! On his artistic journey that manifests the many realms of beauty, he departs into more abstract forms; yet the link to nature remains. Seeking inspiration in history, science, nature, as well as art movements like De Stijl, Nouveau Réalisme, Biomorphism, Surrealism and Spatialism, Samuel Dejong strives for harmony and equilibrium – to create art through perfection. In a world full of chaos there are places where everything is at peace.

We are an interior and furniture design firm founded in 2014 by Andrea Flores and Lucía Soto in Mexico City. We study the relationship between people and spaces making an x-ray of the lives of our clients in each project to offer an aesthetic proposal and a set of spatial solutions that promote the dynamics of integration between individuals and the spaces to be inhabited. Our objects are divided in two: products and collection. Products are those that arise from the specific needs of a project. The collection objects are the result of a work of reflection and aesthetic search. We think of design as a cultural conductor and it is in the collection objects that we find a space to communicate what motivates us.

Important Zandra Rhodes Couture graphic printed oatmeal wool full-length cape dating back to 1970. Zandra Rhodes was one of the British designers who put London at the forefront of the international fashion scene in the 1970's. Her designs are considered creative statements, dramatic but graceful, bold but feminine. Zandra is renowned for her use of prints, and this piece really lets her brilliance shine through. The garment is fashioned in oatmeal felted wool pieced with a wide green band flanked in gorgeous mauve pink. I love the inverted wool scallops with gorgeous top-stitching and fancy silk tassels. The "easy-to-wear" draped cape silhouette is so fresh and strikingly modern. The pictures speak for themselves. Rhodes' exotic originality makes her work among the most copied in the fashion world today. Measurements Bust:Free Size Hips:Free Size Total Length:58 inches This Zandra Rhodes designer garment is in excellent museum-quality condition with no stains or discoloration. Hidden snap closures and fully-lined. Only sign of age is some minor wear to the felt wool. Please message for details pictures. This full-length cape is over 40 years old and is truly exquisite. A similar coat is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Collection. Very unique, collectible and rare.
Beautiful worked silver buckle in the form of a bat by Ferdinand Erhart, circa 1908. Similar buckles are in the collection of The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam since 1984 and in Musée d'Orsay, Paris since 1997. It has been marked: 'FE' with a flower in a lozenge (for Ferdinand Erhart) and the standard mark of a boar's head facing left (France after 1838) (see last picture). Erhart had been experimenting with different metalworking techniques. Here the silver has been treated, probably with acids, so that it has acquired a dark 'oxidized' color and it's structure resembles now the skin of a bat.

Mini skirt and short-sleeve jacket two-piece set in cotton denim with gold, rhinestone and bead embellishments on the hems of both pieces. The sparkling details on the hems provide an elevated, glamorous style to the edgy essence of denim. The short-sleeve jacket has two pockets, one on either side of the chest, and are closed with Roberto Cavalli engraved gold metallic buttons, and the jacket is done up at the front centre with a zipper. The shape of the bottom of the item is shorter at the back and becomes longer in front, in a way that the item circles around the wearers waist, peaking in the centre front, a shape that beautifully hugs the waist and flatters the silhouette. This piece is constructed in a way that the seams that run down the body resemble the boning of a corset, which along with the shape of the waistline, really does provide a corseted look to this jacket. The mini skirt is low waist and has two Roberto Cavalli engraved gold metallic buttons in the centre, as well matching studs placed on the pockets on either sides of the hip and the pockets on either sides of the back.
