The Heuer Carrera has a rich history intertwined with the world of motorsports. Inspired by the Carrera Panamericana, a perilous and thrilling race held in Mexico, Jack Heuer, the great-grandson of the brand’s founder, aimed to create a timepiece that was not only highly functional for professional drivers but also strikingly elegant. Over the decades, the Carrera has evolved while staying true to its roots. The Heuer Carrera Chronograph, originating from the early 1970s, is an important watch for the brand Heuer. Produced between 1969 and 1974, the Reference 1153 captures the essence of this legendary timepiece. Designed for professional drivers and sports car enthusiasts, the Carrera effortlessly blends sporty sophistication with elegance. Its extra-wide hour markers ensure optimal readability, while the date function positioned at 6 o'clock adds practical functionality. The cushion-shaped case enhances its harmonious and timeless appearance, making the Heuer Carrera a coveted choice for those who appreciate both form and function.

The 1970s started in some style with Mexico playing a role in making the 1970 tournament, which they hosted, so memorable. Javier de la Torre's team cruised through the group stage with wins over Belgium and El Salvador and a draw with the Soviet Union, before exiting in the Quarter Final to Italy. The rest of the decade brought little to cheer however. Mexico failed to qualify at all for the 1974 tournament as important players like Enrique Borja came to the end of their international careers. The national team did reach the 1978 tournament but were well out of their depth in Argentina, losing all three of their matches with the nadir a 6-0 defeat to West Germany. A young Hugo Sanchez was in the squad but he was too inexperienced to make an impression.

True vintage, 100% wool blanket, or area rug! Made in Mexico, in the early 1970s. It's hand woven, Mayan Zapotec Mexican style in Fall colors of, browns, reds, yellows, etc. I've circled a fade mark in one of the photos, so please zoom in. I also added a photo with a mark, that I believe can be removed. I reccomend a dry cleaning upon arrival. I would've had it done, but I'm in the mountains and the dry cleaning I have access to is shaky at best. I don't trust them and I've considered the cost while pricing it. The Carrera was released the same year as the Daytona, and they are both named after famous races too – the Carrera for the extremely dangerous Carrera Panamericana race through Mexico, but the Carrera has many features that set it apart from its contemporaries. Heuer’s Carrera line was designed with legibility in mind. The goal was to create a chronograph that was sleek and uncluttered. Heuer had patented a new steel tension ring to hold the crystal in place. In order to keep the dial as clean as possible, this ring was painted to feature the 1/5 second demarcations. This along with the basic baton markers helped to create the simple, minimal look Heuer had in mind. The Heuer 73653S is the successor to the earlier "4 digit" Carrera references of the 1960s and features the updated Valjoux 7736 chronograph movement. The 73653N has an undoubtedly 1970s charm while remaining true to its Carrera heritage. This specific model features a lovely metallic silver dial with grey sub-dials and outer decimeter track, the hands are easily legible and the orange chronograph hand makes for a stylish contrasting aesthetic. The Heuer Carrera has a rich racing history but the 73653N is loved by automotive and watch enthusiasts alike, perfect for anyone who enjoys a beautiful chronograph wristwatch. The other day Claus wrote about Jaguar and the associated conservatism they seem to be marked by. Completely opposite to that we find the french Citroën where the term Avantgarde seems to define the marque. It is said, that they were crazy at Citroën. Or at least diluted with Pastis in their golden days aorund
