What is in your closet? The number of clothing we have today is massive compared to the limited wardrobes in the 1940s. With smaller incomes, higher quality clothing, less variety of clothing, and more home sewing skills, the pre-fast fashion years were one of careful planning and dedication to wearing clothes out completely. So, what

These great summer jumpers are nice and simple to make as the back and the front are the same and it's only the pattern that's different. If you need this larger than 36" (which be quite form fitting) you can simply add another pattern repeat. And if you want the waist to be more shaped, you can always knit the lower part with smaller needles Language Note – This 1940s and 50s pattern company used an image that many today find offensive and used a word that was used as a racist slur. I have edited them from the pattern by placing my logo over the image and changing the G-word with the name of the company. The original pattern was a product of its time; however, although the word is not being used in a racially hateful way, it allowed prejudices to continue. By editing the word I hope that I am not suggesting that these prejudices never existed, merely that they are not acceptable today (nor were they in the past) - check out my blog for more info on this https://prettyoldpatterns.blogspot.com/2021/04/the-power-of-words.html Date: estimated late 1940s or early 1950s Measurements: Bust 32" to 36" 81 to 91cm ; length 19" 48cm Materials: 3-ply or light fingering; 3.25mm US 3 and 2.75mm US 2 needles Originals used 4 ozs Hedge Nook 3-ply Knitting Tension: 7 stitches and 9.5 rows to 1 inch using 3.25mm US 3 needles over stocking stitch 5 Pages Please note that you are buying a digital copy, not the original nor the finished item Included with the pattern are some tips about needle conversions and tension (gauge) This pattern is now out of copyright and in the public domain - however this version remains copyright to me and carries a faint watermark After buying the pattern you'll have a link to the Downloads page in your account. '50s clothing trends are perhaps the most feminine and sophisticated for the modern vintage lover to wear, arguably the last remaining era of vintage fashion that's available in ample supply to buy from boutique and online vintage sellers. I compiled a checklist for the '50s fashion lover to use when compiling her ultimate '50s "lady" style wardrobe. See if you own what's on the list!

This pattern was bought in a charity shop just this afternoon. It is for a simple lace-patterned cap sleeve sweater in sizes 34" to 38" bust, by Scottish company Greenock. It dates from the early 1960s, though the style is typically '50s. The pattern calls for 3-ply yarn, though with a tension of 6 stitches per inch on fairly large needles it could be made up in a 4 ply or light double knit with smaller needles, giving a slightly denser knit.
