In 1959, lithographer Fernand Mourlot organized an exhibition of all the lithographs artists had created at his shop, Mourlot Studios. This print is from the bound collection which he printed to accompany the exhibition. His shop, later renamed Mourlot Editions, had become one of the largest print studios in Europe by the mid 20th Century, transformed from the simple wallpaper shop it started out as to a respected studio hired by French and foreign museums to produce posters for their own exhibitions. As his studio grew, so did Mourlot's ambitions, and he soon began inviting some of the best artists of the time to produce lithographs at his shop. Many of the era's most famous modern artists began discovering the art of lithography under Mourlot's direction. Now armed with printing skills, these artists went on to produce posters for their exhibitions, taking charge of their own advertisement campaigns. By reintroducing lithography to the world as a fine artform, one that offered all kinds of experimental possibilities, Mourlot truly earned his title as the father of modern lithography. Sheet size: 12 x 9 inches. Printed one side only on thick paper. Some age toning to border edges. Plate number in tiny script to right hand corner of border. This lithograph is by Mourlot, the original printer of the lithograph. It is an exact reprint of the original poster in all but size. Our usual packaging: Beautifully presented in cello bag backed by acid-free card. Will be also sent in cardboard reinforced DO NOT BEND envelope. Where possible, we also include a sheet with information about the print.

A PAINTER CLAUDE GARACHE B B PAINTER CLAUDE GARACHE Claude Garache was born in Paris in 1929. From 1949 to 1959, he created his first pieces in painting and sculpture. He took numerous trips and holdiays abroad. Established in Paris, Garache regularly exposed his works at the Maeght Gallery. His works are conserved in important institutions in Paris, New York, Washington, Marseille, Vevey, Genève, etc. Claude Garache's art is one of a singular coherance and, as Raoul Ubac noted at one of Garache's first expositions in 1972, it is "animated by a strange power working by successive pushes towards slow reconstruction and progressive of a unique body." By means of one color (red) and a certain perseverance, he follows the unique subject of the female body. In conditions almost always identical of work and light, returns, unremitting, the question of the distance established by the artist, between the model and the canvas, the artists's view of his object and the language chosen to translate it, painting and Eros, the figure and its relation to space and form and emotion. http://www.maeght.com/galeries/artiste_detail.asp?id=38 All the information and painting' s images had taken from Maeght Gallerie' s web page.
