Blouse styles have not changed dramatically in the past few decades, but every era has a little something that makes its blouses different. 1940s blouses are easily identified from their tailored collars, button up fronts, and puff sleeves. Blouses were always worn tucked into skirts or pants with a bit of blousing left out to

This is a mid century 1940's jumper Bestway pattern 2031 knitted in 3 ply The pattern uses 6oz (approx. 3 x 50g balls) for the short sleeve version and 8oz (approx. 4 x 50g balls) for the long sleeve version The pattern is to fit 32-33 inch bust size This is for a pdf download. The original pattern is in excellent condition with a crease on the front cover but no other obvious marks or creases. There is a little pen annotation on the first page (which appears to be a costing for the wool maybe) but this is on a blank piece of the page and does not cover any of the instructions.
One of our best selling patterns, The Jan Sweater is a wonderfully simple design incorporating a simple lace pattern with slightly blouson shaping, short sleeves and a boat neck. Dressed up or dressed down, this sweater fits perfectly into vintage and non-vintage wardrobes alike and is a great introduction to sweater and/or lace knitting for someone wanting to build their knitting skills. The Jan Sweater is a very typical 1930s design: the garment is designed to be worn with the ribbed welt sitting on the wearer’s waist, with a slightly blouson lower body created by increases being worked across the row directly above the welt. Minimal decreases at the armholes and sleeve heads are the only other shaping, making this a very simple knit. The sweater is knitted in flat pieces from the bottom up and then sewn together. The Jan Sweater is knitted using Susan Crawford Excelana North fingering weight a soft, fingering weight 100% British wool, spun for us in nearby Yorkshire and dyed in-house by Susan and her team. Shown here in shade Powdered Egg but looks fabulous in any of Excelana’s stunning colours. Once you’ve knitted one you won’t want to stop! Our model Lola is shown wearing the first size to fit 76-81cm (30-32in) chest. The pattern includes instructions for eight sizes to fit chest measurements between 76cm (30in) and 157cm (62in) and contains both clear written pattern directions, together with charted instructions for the all-over lace pattern plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart. Yarn kits are available at Susan Crawford Vintage. With a fitted bodice, puff sleeves, and a flared peplum, this stunning two-piece gown harkens back to the sophistication of the 1940’s.
An absolutely stunning knitted dress, from Knitcraft Annual for 1945. A ribbed stitch ensures the dress is form-fitting, while moss-stitch button bands and sash provide a delicate contrast. Puffed sleeves are a must in this War-era design. Finished measurements of 34 inch bust and 36 inch hip (some leeway here due to the stretchy rib). Requires fingering weight yarn on 3mm + 2.75mm needles. This listing is for the above PDF pattern, available by Instant Download (in the Downloads section of your Etsy account).

Three great summer jumpers made in double knit on large needles so they'll work up quickly ready to strut your stuff in the sun If you need this larger than 38" (which will be quite form fitting) you can simply add more stitches to the centre or at the sides Language Note – This 1940s and 50s pattern company used an image that many today find offensive and used a word that was used as a racist slur. I have edited them from the pattern by placing my logo over the image and changing the G-word with the name of the company. The original pattern was a product of its time; however, although the word is not being used in a racially hateful way, it allowed prejudices to continue.
