One particular decade of fashion history made us realise just how little has actually changed when it comes to fashion trends.

The most iconic look of war-time was the 1940s women's two-piece suit. In the United States, it was patriotically called the victory suit. In Britain, it was the utility suit. The suit was practical and versatile, worn as often as dresses. The jacket and skirt could be mixed with other pieces, and a different blouse
That's what couples wore in the 1940s.
From World War 2 through the declaration of peace and into the birth of the Baby Boomers, life in the 1940's wasn't easy. But our parents and grandparents lived their lives with courage, honor, and great optimism about the future. The war and the Great Depression was over, the Dust Bowl was gone - almost 20 years of tough challenges - and life was good again. These are some of the many 1940s photos that shows what the previous generations lived through, and what they did to thrive.

My first love of all the vintage retro decades was with the 1940s. Perhaps because clothing was similar to that in the 1980s, the decade I grew up in, and I subconsciously wanted to relive those times? Hmm, maybe. The reason doesn't matter, but the love for 1940s clothing, especially 1940s dresses, does. You can

I love all of the pants, slacks, trousers, etc. from the 1940's. I especially love seeing the women wear those fantastic high waisted pants. I love the menswear feel, the nautical feel, they're the best! I have tried for a while to find a pair at the stores I frequent that look suitable. No luck. After driving almost everybody nuts, I finally decided to just attempt to make some, hoping to find a pattern that I liked. I am not a intermediate sewer, but I think I am out of the beginner stage... So, after months of dreaming, I am finally working on a pair of my own, using a repro pattern by Simplicity, pattern #3688. I made a pair out of muslin first, just to see how they fit, look and feel. I really like them, it's the look I want to go for. Thank goodness. I did have a few bumps in the road, but I was able to manage, my grandma helped me out. After procrastinating for a few weeks to make the 'permanent' pair, I got a little energy/confidence boost and decided to go for it. It was now or never. So far, I have to put in the zipper, waistband, and the hem. I'm so happy it's coming together. The biggest struggles I think I have are the zipper and waistband. I will post the finished product, hopefully they turn out! Ivy
High waists and wide legs define women's 1940s style pants. From factory wear to comfortable housewear, 1940s women loved these new fashions borrowed from men's clothing. Many were styled after sailor pants in navy blue with white buttons on the side. Dress trousers had side zippers, pleated wide legs, and a waistband with room for a thin
