Designers and the fashion forward are constantly looking back to the '90s for guidance, take a look back at the 90s brands & trendsetters who did it first.
These are women who were more than just beautiful, they were talented and were able to have successful careers for themselves during a period when men dominated the entertainment industry. With the passage of time, many of these stars have dimmed and are now only distant memories, but one name continues to sparkle... Maude Fealy. Known for her great beauty and talent, the actress was probably photographed more than any other actress of the early 1900s. Her popular photographs were collected all over the world. Her youthful beauty made her a popular subject for postcards; and here are some of our favorites...
From World War 2 through the declaration of peace and into the birth of the Baby Boomers, life in the 1940's wasn't easy. But our parents and grandparents lived their lives with courage, honor, and great optimism about the future. The war and the Great Depression was over, the Dust Bowl was gone - almost 20 years of tough challenges - and life was good again. These are some of the many 1940s photos that shows what the previous generations lived through, and what they did to thrive.
And so ends the seasonal Olympics for street style photographers in Paris! Also known as Fashion Week, it's the time of year when these professional people-watchers jump through hoops to capture the hottest outfits of the City of Light, taking their cues from legends such as the Sartorialist and Bil
In Part IV of The Ideal WWI Figure, let’s look at how women with full busts achieved support and the fashionable silhouette of the period. Part I: The Ideal WWI Figure: a range of Ideals Part II: Breaking Down the Elements that Made the ‘Ideal’ figure Part III: The Changing Ideal Figure, 1913-1921 One of the most common questions I get asked about the Rilla Corset is how to wear it/what you do for bust support if you are very full busted, as it sits below the bust. To answer that question, let’s go back to the source, and look at period accounts, illustrations, and extant examples of bust supporting garments. There is no better way to find out how to support your bust then to see how it was actually done in period. As we’ve seen from looking at the figure ideals in the 1910s over the last three posts in the series, the ideal WWI bust, whether small or big, was low and drooping, rather than high and perky, as is the modern …
I first came across this garment while reading Carrie Brown’s wonderful book, Rosie’s Mom, on female industrial workers during the first world war. Brown’s text is peppered with fantastic images, a…
Edwardian fashion was characterized by the new S-bend corset and pouter pigeon shape. It was an era of luxury with elegant dresses and expensive fabrics.
Decade Lookbook: 1910's Part 2 Fashion from 1910 to 1919 in the Western world was characterized by great opulence in the first half of the decade-- a stark contrast with the somber practicality of garments worn during the Great War, or WWI. Men's pants were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. Skirts rose from floor length to well above the ankle and women began to bob their hair. This is my second 1910's lookbook; click here you'd like to see the rest of my decade lookbooks.
