ABOUT THE ART Restored gold and royal blue design by William Morris, circa late 1800s. Morris (1834-1896) was a renowned British textile designer, poet, artist, novelist, architectural conservationist, printer, translator and socialist activist associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement. He was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile arts and methods of production. Recognised as one of the most significant cultural figures of Victorian Britain, Morris was best known in his lifetime as a poet, although he posthumously became better known for his prolific designs which included huge ranges of wallpaper and fabrics. An exhibition was held at London's revered Victoria & Albert Museum (the V&A) in 1934, celebrating 100 years since his birth.

About this print A lush watercolour print of a frond-filled nikau grove in the Waitakere Ranges. Edition open in all sizes Printed by endemicworld on mid-weight acid free paper w/ archival inks Framing style simple w/ classic moulding About the Artist Emma Lovegrove is a visual artist and illustrator from Auckland, New Zealand. Lovegrove graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2019 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with First Class Honours and was a 2nd place recipient of the 2018 Henrietta and Lola Anne Tunbridge Watercolour Scholarship. Since graduating from Elam, she has collaborated with Pauanesia and held her first solo exhibition titled Whenua at Endemicworld in Auckland. Lovegrove uses her art practice as a way to foster her relationship with the landscapes that she visits and the varied nature they contain. She is drawn to locations that feel wild and untouched, but when you peer more closely, vibrant ecosystems thrive and intricate patterns are revealed. She is particularly interested in the relationships between living and non-living, human and non-human, and how the way we interact with nature can affect our relationship with it. A large portion of Lovegrove’s practice is devoted to wandering, climbing, photographing, foraging, sketching and writing within the landscapes she visits.
Portrait of Ivan Shiskin by Ivan Kramskoy 1873 oil on canvas 110 x 78 cm Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1832 – 1898) was a Russian landscape painter closely associated with the Peredvizhniki movement. Peredvizhniki, often called The Wanderers or The Itinerants in English, were a group of Russian realist artists who in protest at academic restrictions formed an artists' cooperative; it evolved into the Society for Travelling Art Exhibitions in 1870. For biographical notes on Shishkin, and for earlier works, see part 1. Parts 1-4 feature his paintings, part 5 his drawings. Unfortunately I couldn't find the medium or sizes for many of these works, though I believe they are all oil on canvas. This is part 2 of a 5-part post on the works of Ivan Shishkin: 1872 Landscape with a Woman oil on canvas 1872 Pine Forest in Vyatka Province 1873 Coniferous Forest oil on canvas 1874 Covert 1874 Forest Landscape 1874 Twilight, after Sunset oil on canvas 1875 Birch Grove 1875 Evening in a Pine Forest 1875 First Snow 1876 Autumn Forest 1878 Birch Grove 1878 Birch and Mountain Ash 1878 Pine Forest 1878 The Field of Wheat oil on canvas 107 x 187 cm 1879 Edge of the Forest 1879 Mountain Path, Crimea 1879 Rocky Shore 1880 Path through the Woods oil on canvas 59 x 48 cm 1880 Wind-fallen Trees 1881 Pond 1881 Thickets oil on canvas 142 x 93 cm 1883 In the Birch Tree Forest 1883 In the Open Valley 1883 Twilight 1884 Before a Thunderstorm oil on canvas 110 x 150 cm 1884 Corner of Overgrown Garden, Goutweed Grass 1884 Edge of the Forest 1884 Fir Forest in Winter 1884 Gathering Storm 1884 Pine Forest 1885 Coast of Oak Grove of Peter the Great in Sestroretsk 1885 Foggy Morning oil on canvas 108 x 145 cm 1885 Forest

Rather than considering paint as a liquid medium, San Francisco-based artist Chris Dorosz uses the traditional material as a unit of measure to form anonymous sculptural portraits. At first glance, the three-dimensional paintings read as abstract compilations of shapes, and only once the viewer looks head-on at the portrait does a human figure begin to emerge. As he writes in his artist statement, Dorosz considers the paint drop to be “a form that takes shape not from a brush or any human-made implement or gesture, but purely from its own viscosity and the air it falls through, as analogous to the building blocks that make up the human body (DNA) or even its mimetic representation (the pixel).” Dorosz is represented by Scott Richards Contemporary Art.
