Download plans for the Glastonbury Meadowlark. Article, plans, instructions, and photos by Dennis Norman. Online exclusive bonus content from the December 2013 issue. In early June, Mike Nassise sent me a copy of the Tailspin newsletter. Thanks to Mike’s outstanding efforts, Tailspin is always well written and filled with three-views, clear photos, and plans.
The ASW 15, designed by Gerhard Waibel for the Alexander Schleicher company, was first flown in 1968. The design was among the first non-metal composite fiberglass production sailplanes in the world and also represented first sailplane and radio control model I built at age 20. I enjoyed years of flying it on the slopes and floor of the Antelope Valley in California and so now have developed this plan to build an exact scale replica of the full size and at the same scale as that of my former model. Part of the appeal of the kit that I had built and this one is that it is inexpensive to build, transport, assemble and fly. I've spent more hours on the development of this plan and kit than any other model I have designed in the last 15 years excepting only the LT-IV Yankee Doodle gull wing designed by Jack Laister, whom I spoke with on the phone prior to completing that project. I am proud of how the plans are laid out and written and believe the instructions have been well thought out and presented. NOTE: this item is the plans only. We will list partial kits when they become available which will include laser cut plywood fuselage formers, wing ribs, stab, and tail tip formers, canopy and one sheet 36"x 54" plans sheets as shown in the images. Very complete assembly and construction notes are provided on the plan as shown. For those purchasing the plan I've completed drawing of the wing ribs which I'd be happy to email to use as templates. Modeler will need to purchase materials and fabricate/cut fuselage formers, wing an tail parts and crutches, leading and trailing edges, wing and fuselage sheeting, strip balsa stringers and spruce longerons, cement, radio control system, covering materials, etc. Ask us about combining shipping for multiple quantities for your youth groups or family. We can take 10 percent off the price of your second or third items when ordered together and shipped to the same address. If you have purchased plans for the larger scale kits that I offer and later purchase the laser cut kit, please email me and I can discount the parts kit by the cost of printing on your previous plans order.
