These last couple months have been such a joy! I've been assisting a friend get a Sunday School program started for our growing church plant and we've decided to read through "The Jesus Storybook Bible" by Sally Lloyd-Jones through Zonder. Since we are still a small group, the age range is fairly wide: from three to ten. Finding projects to go along with the story has been a little trial and error, and a little bit of making projects up as I go! That's why I wanted to share this free printable I made up with you. I found the basic idea from "Hands On Bible Teacher", but was unable to locate any similar printable, so I sketched one out quickly and thought there may be someone else out there who could use the template The basic idea is that you color it in, then cut along the top and bottom of each level. Then, fold the stone layers forward and the rest backward to make the building stand out. I think this would work well for a pop-up book, too, if you'd be so inclined! Click on image below to open full sized. To finish off the time after story, prayer, and this pop-up page, I brought in all our foam blocks and the kids broke off into teams. The team to build the tallest tower in a set amount of time won! It seemed a good time was had by all and my son was even able to re-teach me what he had learned that morning, so we're going to call it a win! =) I hope someone else out there can put these ideas to use again, somewhere! And I would love to hear how it works for you!

After Pinteresting a craft for David and Jonathan, and not really liking what I saw, I came up with this craft. The template is from different sources and pieced together, but it should make sense to you when you scroll down and look at it. Feel free to ask me questions if you have any. So for this craft, you will need: Cardstock, pipe cleaners, crayons, hole punch, scissors, and glue Here is what the finished craft looks like: Although the little creatures who "make" these crafts cannot read, I still think it's important to include key verses from the stories so that parents/caretakers can read them or look them up later. You never know, these crafts may get tossed into a corner to be found years later when the before toddler can now read. It may change his or her life. You never know. . .But God's Word never returns void, right? The verse on the arrow is I Samuel 20:37 "Jonathan yelled out, 'Isn't the arrow farther out?'" The verse on the bow is I Samuel 20:42 "Jonathan said, 'Go in peace! The two of us have vowed friendship in God's name, saying, "God will be the bond between me and you, and between my children and your children forever!"'" Here is my template: It's a little messy, because I copied and pasted the bow and the arrow from different sources and they kept overlapping. This was the best editing job I could do in the time allotted. Anyways, you will need to cut all the pieces out separately and then glue them fronts to backs. You will notice in the picture that after I glued the pieces together, I colored them. Then, I punched a hole in the back end of the arrow and either end of the bow. I ran a pipe cleaner through all of the holes. The End!
(Mark 1:14-22) At first glance, today's scripture appeared very simple... too simple for a game. There are a plethora of fish crafts but, we haven't played a game in a while, and I had my heart set on having an active activity this week. I read the scripture over and over trying to pick out enough details to support a game. As the week waned, I tried to talk myself into a craft anyway. But I couldn't do it. Thankfully, I awoke Saturday morning with this game idea: Supplies: Colored cardstock Scissors Sharpie Any fish drawing Bean bags (hacky sacks would work well, too) Questions (click to download) Optional: Blue plastic disposable table cloth If you do not want to draw your own fish, or have a picture you can use, you are welcome to download mine here. (Of course, this is for your private use only, and you may not sell the image or anything made from it.) Pre-class Instructions: 1. Using a copy machine or printer, copy the fish image onto 18 pieces of colored cardstock. 2. Cut out the fish. 3. Write one question on the back of each fish. Notice there are only 9 questions, but I have instructed you to cut out 18 fish. Each question will appear on two fish. This allows the game to be played in teams (each team getting their own set of questions/fish, or when there are only a few kids playing, the repetition will help them learn the correct answers.) 4. Print out the question & answer sheet in case it is needed during game play. How to play: 1. If using a blue tablecloth to mimic water, spread it on floor. 2. Spread the fish, face up, on top of the water. If not using the tablecloth, just spread the fish in a smallish area on the floor. 3. Pick a spot on the floor where the kids will stand when it is their turn. I used a rug we have in our room. I simply told them they could not step off the rug during their throw. 4. Each child gets one throw at a time. They are to toss the bean bag in an attempt to land on a fish. 5. When they land on a fish, they get to turn it over and read the question aloud. If they get the answer right, they get to keep the fish. If they do not know the answer, the fish must be returned to the sea, face up. Be sure to tell everyone the correct answer so the next time someone lands on that fish, they will know the answer. 6. The team or child with the most fish at the end of the game wins. This past Sunday we learned about the story of the conquering of Jericho. We made the "Rams" horns as our "Take Home" Activity. The horns were made before class (see previous post). During class the children added the chenille stick around the mouth piece and were allowed to color and decorate their horn any way they wanted. We also used these horns during the review game...but, more on that later. The kids LOVED these horns. They were soooo excited about getting to show their parents their "Rams" horn. Our memory verse this week was from the book of Proverbs. We said and sang the memory verse several times during class...and I am sure they will have it memorized by Wednesday. Our Review Game was a BLAST (the kiddos were allowed to blow their horns during this game.) I had the children draw card from a pile...if they picked a "Trumpet Carrying Priest" then they were a horn blower....if they picked the "Ark of the Covenant" then they had to follow behind the horn blowers as we marched around "Jericho." The children had to answer a question from the story in order to pick a card. This "Review Game" board from the Rahab story served as our Wall of Jericho. We marched around it a total of 13 times...(1 time for each of 6 days and then 7 times for day 7.) Then the kids blew their horns and shouted. Because this is a poster board type game board, I was able to let the wall fall flat. Their expressions were priceless...I love getting them excited about Bible stories. On Wednesday the children will be making this project for the Explorer Journal. The horns are Bugles (from the grocery stores chip aisle.) I coated them with a thick coating of modge podge and let them air dry for several days. They have become extremly hard and I believe will hold up well in their Explorer Journal...I love the arm on the one Priest...it has motion by adding a brad...I love activities that have the kids do several things with their hands... I believe it will help them remember the story very well. Blessings, Ronda
