192 pages 20 colourwork knitting patterns (9 cushions, 3 wraps, 3 quilts, 2 sweaters, 1 vest, 1 hat, 1 pair of gloves) A fold-out map for the Butterfly Patchwork Quilt Brimming with artistic inspiration and filled with patterns for gorgeous knitwear and joyful pieces for the home, this creative and original book invites you to step inside Dee Hardwicke's world. Illustrated throughout with beautiful watercolours and painterly photography, The Knitted Fabric brings the pages of Dee's sketchbooks to life. As Dee explains, “I find the process of knitting very similar to painting, with each stitch being a brushstroke of colour. As stitches loop together, they create a knitted fabric, a kind of narrative of art, making and the people and landscapes that inspire me”. Just like the 20 nature-inspired designs within it, this unique book is something to treasure. Dee Hardwicke is an artist, designer, and knitter whose work is inspired by her passion for colour and by her love of the British landscape. Dee's designs have been used in exclusive collaborations with partners including the National Trust and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Her previous knitting books include A Story in Yarn: How to Design and Knit an Intarsia Heirloom Quilt (Quail Publishing, 2016) and several titles with leading British yarn producers and designers Rowan. Each design begins life in her sketchbooks.

This wood hair pin is handcrafted from Quilted Maple Average size 5 1/2"x 3/4". We've been making wood hair pin for over 25 years. They have a specially designed shaped top and profile (curving in and back out again - like an hourglass) which helps them maintain a tight firm hold in the hair. Edges are smoothed and transitions are eased for a no snag safe hold in your hair. Maple (Quilted) (Acer saccharum) Quilted Maple gets its name from the round figures swirling across the grain pattern. Quilted figure looks somewhat similar to birdseye figuring, but with larger circles for the eyes. It reminds me of big puffy clouds. Each pin is individually handmade and may have some slight variations in appearance. Photo is example of hairpin in a specific wood type. I make my wood hair pins hair pins from many sustainably sourced domestic and exotic hardwoods. Pictured in the 2nd photo are some examples from left to right (bocote, birdseye maple, wenge, satinwood, snakewood, bloodwood, quilted maple, purpleheart, tulipwood) Most of these can be found in my store. If not, they may be available by special order. I can also customize lengths. Hair Pins are much easier to use than most people think (there's a trick to getting them to stay in tightly), these wood hair picks can be worn in a number of hairstyles and updos including buns, French twists, knots, chignons and many others. Each of my hair Pins comes with detailed instructions explaining how to use it. Nanook is worked top-down in one piece, and requires minimal finishing. The different textures look great in a variety of yarns - from solid wools to hand-dyed silk/alpaca/cashmere blends - and keep the knitting interesting but not difficult. It can be worn open or closed, but you don't have to decide that until the end since the natural eyelets in the stitch pattern serve as buttonholes! Choose a size that is close to your actual bust measurement, or up to 3 cm / 1 inch smaller, to get a good fit across the back. The finished Nanook was knit in Quince and Co. Lark. A substitute yarn is shown below.
This comfortable cardigan has a flattering shape and beautiful detailing. The garment is worked from the bottom up and utilizes a seamless set-in sleeve construction. The finished garment is …

The Design “Make it an open cardigan or a seamed tunic.” Our original Modern Wrapper was a big hit, but several knitters asked for a similar style without the mohair component. To achieve the requisite ‘lightness of being’ without the mohair haze to fill in the gaps, we shifted to a finer fabric, mixing (or matching) two strands of lace-weight yarn. We’ve also slimmed the silhouette and added a bit more precision to the fit by grading the design in three relaxed sizes. See how we've used this pattern! The Details SIZESThis garment is designed with 16–22"/40–56cm of ease. When choosing which size to knit, we suggest you refer to the schematic for the shoulder width and the upper sleeve width.Sizes XS/S (M/L, XL). GAUGE22 sts/32 rows = 4"/10cm in stockinette stitch on larger needle, after blocking. KNITTER'S NOTES When knitting with two strands at the same time, stop periodically to check for any dropped strands. While it’s not the worst thing that can happen to a sweater, dropped strands are easy to fix, especially if you catch them early. This garment is designed with 16–22" of ease, which leaves a lot of options for fit! Use the recommended amount of ease and enjoy the drapey fabric that results. Or knit it on the larger end of the ease range for a more oversized and dramatic look (similar to our original Modern Wrapper but in a lighter fabric). Or try one size smaller than recommended for a closer-fitting piece that’s more like a long cardigan to wear over leggings and a tank top. If you decide to make your Modern Wrapper Fine into a tunic, leave a small amount of yarn visible after seaming the center front. This way you can easily undo the seam should you want a cardigan instead.
