The week between Christmas and New Year's I pin basted four quilts, preparing them for machine quilting. Today I am sharing the third finish of the four. I made this quilt from rectangles I found in a box of scraps from a quilt I made a number of years ago. There were a lot more rectangles than I remembered, so I started randomly placing them on my design wall and created this top. This was pure mindless sewing, which is needed on occasion! The machine quilting was purely mindless, too. I was listening to a book on Hoopla while I quilted. No measuring, no counting, so stopping and starting. Just quilt and move the fabric. It was fun making this quilt from the box of scraps. The binding is also from my box of binding scraps. I would not usually put all of these fabrics together, but it seems to work here. The backing peaking out from the bottom corner was left over from a larger quilt. This finish will go in the "to be given" pile. Happy Quilting!

With its visual field of deep black velvet and twinkling white stitches this African-American signature quilt is as powerful and mysterious as the universe.
Hi everyone! Okay, so I said I wouldn't bug you until next week, but I made a layout guide so you know how we're going to be placing the blocks. The quilt is made up of 12 blocks, and the quilt will b

More storms and tornado warnings a couple miles south last night so I had the machine unplugged again for awhile. 8/10 of an inch of rain and lots of wind. I finished sewing this together by 11p.m. and then pressed it and did a row of stay-stitching around the edge. When it is sewn together I can really tell if it is successful. When it is just pieces on the design wall I have my doubts. I'll call this one a success! It is 44" x 64". I will be posting a couple collages of the progress as I worked on this one.

I’m sorry I’ve been such an awful poster… I’m afraid I’m super intimidated by the blog thing, and I feel like I’ve done it wrong a dozen times… in fact, I know I’ve done it wrong several times because my posts don’t actually show up… SO. I’m writing this in word, and then I’m going to have it saved so I can post until I get it right. I’m sorry IF you get this 11 times. I debated about what I’d do for MY month of the NewBee bee… AGES and ages, and here’s what I’ve come up with. My little boys are 2 and 4 and just getting into dinosaurs and space. Dinosaurs = hard, and I have no interest in ancient reptiles. SPACE, so much fun. So. I want to make a quilt of Space… like this one, only better, of course, since it will be made by YOU. If everyone could make a big hunk of made fabric in Navy Blue/Black, and hopefully also a thing you might see in space a planet (any planet, real or imagined) Perhaps a star, or a spaceship, or an alien craft…. (this should be ideal for made fabric, don’t you think? A firey orange-red sun, a white and gray moon, green and blue earth, blue Neptune red mars) You are all so creative, I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with. Thank you! http://lehman.shutterfly.com/10283 This is Wesley, he’s four. He is the supreme authority on… all things. He could be talking to Stephen Hawking, and he’d interrupt to voice what he’d be certain is a better idea. http://lehman.shutterfly.com/10303 This is Grant, he’s 2, and also into super heroes right now. What does Krypton look like? That was a planet, right? Or wait… didn’t it get destroyed….? Who knows. (psst... not him)

I'm so glad everyone enjoyed Wednesday's post about the Social Justice Quilts of Quiltcon 2019. Of course there were a ton of other, non-SJ related quilts that were so stunning and inspiring. The creativity and skill that went into all of the quilts is obvious. This is only a small sampling of the amazingness I saw - if you're able, I'd highly recommend attending a Quiltcon yourself one day so you can see all of the quilts in up close and in person. It is a truly magical experience. There was a strong contingency of quilts from the Denver area. I was thrilled to look at a quilt's info sheet to learn that I knew the quilter or that it was a local person! These are a few of the quilts from our local quilters - nice work everyone! Everyone contributed blocks to the quilt and Shawna did the quilting. This group chooses to make improv blocks that included piecing less than 1". All of the charity quilts are made using the same colors (this one was made entirely from stash fabrics!) and this year's theme was "Small Piecing". Proceeds from the sale of this quilt will benefit Sage of the Rockies. These remaining quilts are just a few more of the quilts I fell in love with last weekend in Nashville. Please enjoy and a huge thanks to the Modern Quilt Guild for putting on another great event!
