this shot was planned out days in advance.....quick jaunt into Washington state across the Columbia river with a short quarter mile hike to a spectacular falls. snap the shot and resume road trip to visit my sister in Portland......simple. what i failed to plan for was the fact that i had started work @ 3am that morning, worked 6 hours and then hopped in the car to drive another 6 hours to the waterfall. upon arriving at the parking lot i was confronted with a much steeper hillside than i had ever imagined. to top it off the intermittent rain showers had made the trail and moss covered rock slide that was the route to the falls quite slick. 500 vertical feet later over the quarter mile and numerous slips that landed me on my butt i arrived at the falls pretty damn exhausted. the creek was swollen with water from recent runoff and rains. the water coursed though a steep rocky area with a fifteen to ten foot drop into the raging creek. to gain this vantage it also required scaling down some short cliff faces which were covered in water from nearby draining streams. in the end it was all worth it....the water was an amazing blue, the recent rains really brought out the green of the moss covering the rocks and the overcoming the adversity of the situation gave me a great sense of accomplishment of achieving what i had set out to do.
